Exploration of Plato
Plato was born in Athens during the Golden age; he grew up during the Peloponnesian
War. Plato was a follower of Socrates; in fact, Socrates was accused of corrupting Plato. After
Socrates was forced to committed suicide Plato started his exploration. He traveled to Egypt,
Cyrene, Italy, Sicily, and Syracuse to study with other philosophers and mathematicians. During
his travels at Syracuse he built a lifelong relationship with the ruling family.

At the age of forty, Plato returns to Athens where he builds his own academy. One his
most famous students is Aristotle. This place wasn’t an actual school with desk and
homework, just a shady place right out of Athens where people gathered to get taught
and study. There Plato taught philosophy, mathematics, and theoretical astronomy. The
Academy became more popular within every day. What Plato didn’t know at the time
was that his academy was going to last nine hundred years after his death.

With a dream of developing a happy philosophy, he travels back to Syracuse. He hopes

that with bond in Syracuse they will let him proceed, but he was wrong. Despite his relationship
with the royal family he was unsuccessful in creating his political idea. A disappointed Plato
travels back to Athens where he continues to teach at his school. Plato dies in his favorite place,
The Academy, where his teachings still influence us today!
