Topic: Factors that affect students in choosing college

Introduction

College is an important thing that we should keep in our mind for the future,

since it will give us academic reputation and will create a bright future. Besides on that,

college will offer you a wide variety of opportunities not only on expanding the

knowledge in the field of your choice but also in choosing job hereafter. Yet, in order to

cherish the exquisite things this has to offer, we should take a gradual process for this to

occur and probably finding school is one of our footsteps.

Choosing school is comparatively same as finding an "Outfit of the Day". You

may not discover the accurate for your style or liking hence you can find the best that

suits your fashion. In addition, choosing school is like a feast of choices scattered over a

table. It is hard to choose which one is the best amongst the choices, but then, keep in

mind the quote " every sacrifice will have a sweet return".

However, amidst the benefits aforementioned above, a study in United States

revealed almost half (45.5%) of the students leave college without diploma and in fact

was describe by Bill Gates as “tragic” (https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/10/bill-gates-us-

college-dropout-rates-are-tragic.html). Meanwhile, in the Philippines, a study also

exposes an alarming 84% or 2.13 million college dropouts in the Philippines. (Manila

Bulletin, 2012 as cited by Slongan Volume II, 2014). Moreover, the major reasons why

this is far and wide in the Philippines are because of the rising tuition, overwhelm in

Given the points above, this research intends to address the issue of losing

money and effort on changing decision in the near future by not choosing the right

school for them. Also, we will give a focus on giving guides on undecided students in

picking their desired schools. Because as far as observed, many triumphant people

nowadays came from schools they had opt based on their likings.

In conclusion, picking schools according to their standards is important for

Grade 11 students because it would be beneficial for them to be in a relevant school

that would help them for their chosen career in the future. Additionally, this proposal can

help the undecided students on finding schools that can fit with their standards, ambition

and other preferences.

Background of the Study

The process of college or university selection and the factors of significant

influence have been a frequent research topic during the past years. We the

researchers conducted a survey on the students at the University of the Makati. These

respondents took part in stated preference discrete choices. The location of the school

matters, budget of the parents, course that the students want etc. These are some of

the problems that are also part in choosing a school.

The importance of our research is to determine what the factors of grade 11

students here at the University of Makati in choosing a school or university to attend in

college. Our research is conducted by an interview to the senior high school students

who were enrolled in University of Makati. The students we’ve been interviewing are like
us researchers who also has problems in choosing a college school. And also our

intention in this research to help improve the decisions of the incoming grade 11 to be

wise in selecting schools in college.

We had come up to this topic because we, the researchers, wants to be

enlightened by the opinion of our peers towards choosing college. In addition, by doing

this research, we and unsettled student could eventually favor a decision regarding on

choosing school that fit with our standards, ambitions and other preferences.

Furthermore, this research aims to create a handy guide not just for the students in

UMAK but also to the students nearby the city who was baffled on deciding for their

future.

Purposely enough, this research tackles important thing that we should address

for them not to lose money and effort on changing decision in the near future, by not

choosing the right school for them. Furthermore, this research could be a handy guide

for the student bot just in UMAK but in every students in nearby cities to come up with a

decision for their future. For them to be aware what could be the outcome in their

preferred school. Also to deliberate to them the qualities of the school in order for them

to make a good decision.

And another purpose of it is to guide them on their preferred schools and to find

out what are the school top list of Grade 11 HUMMS. To know, why that school comes

up first in their mind, so it's easy for us to see the qualities of their preferred schools and

to help them from our based opinion on what is good for them. On what benefits that

they can get. In addition to warn them or for them to be aware in some bad cases in that

school they chose. Especially to have them some builded ideas not just from their
courses it is also for their future if it is appropriate, because there are some reasons

why they choose that school because a well knowned school.

Assumption

We the researchers assume that there is a significance in preferring a selected

school for college; their picked school is based on their preferences, not only for that it

can determine the right pathway for their future.

Scope and Delimitation

The highlights of this study concerns about the factors on how preferred schools

are chosen by the students since there are some issues that they are mystify on

choosing, and to comprehend why they chose that school. The primary respondents on

this research are the selected Grade 11 student of Higher School ng Umak. We, the

researchers, will discover a way to notify them by way of research, critical observation,

and understanding. The aspects will look into were the updated study on factors, views

by the students and the standard they kept on choosing. Moreover, we the researchers

believe that, studying the reasons why they preferred that school, it will assist them to

choose for their bright future. It would lessen their confused minds in picking the school

that they want from knowing their genuine reason.
