Printing − overview
The submenu 'File' contains the commands used to define the printer settings, to display the
preview of the current page and to print the entire project or parts of it.

The program offers several possibilities to print your project documentation and to set the printing
options:

• In the dialog 'Print Project' you can select the items to be printed.

• You can print a single worksheet.

• On the page 'Pagelayout' of the dialog 'Options' you can define the used pagelayout for
graphical worksheets, textual worksheets and for printing the whole project (this is always
done in an optimized mode, using less paper as possible).

Controlling the print process using the dialog 'Print Project'

The dialog 'Print Project' appears if you select the menu item 'Print Project' in the submenu 'File'.
The dialog is used to select the items to be printed and the used print mode.

The pagelayout used for printing can be set in the dialog 'Options' on the page 'Pagelayouts' (select
'Options' in the submenu 'Extras').

If you want to print only parts of your project, you first have to mark the desired icons in the project
tree (e.g. one or several POU folder icons or worksheet icons) before calling the dialog 'Print
Project'.
It is not possible to print libraries and worksheets in online mode.

The dialog fields and buttons have the following meaning:

Range specifies the parts to be printed:

'All' or 'Selected'
'All' − if this radio button is activated, the entire project (including all
subtrees) in the project tree is printed.

'Selected' − if this radio button is activated, only the nodes which are
marked in the project tree before calling the dialog are printed. In this
mode, some of the checkboxes in the dialog area 'Print' are grayed, i.e. they
cannot be changed and their settings are not considered when printing.

Checkboxes in the specifies which parts of the project are going to be printed.
'Print' area
Save settings by pressing this button, the system saves the print settings with the project.
When opening the print dialog the next time, these stored settings are
shown automatically even when the project was closed in the meantime.

How to work with the dialog:

Printing the whole project

When printing the whole project at one time, all parts of the project are printed with the pagelayout
which is set in the list box 'Optimized Printing' in the dialog 'Options' on the page 'Pagelayouts'.
Optimized printing means, that the project is printed with less paper as possible. All worksheets are
printed one after the other. A new page is only used, if a new POU or a new step (in SFC) starts.
This setting applies for textual worksheets as well as for graphical worksheets.

How to proceed:

• Choose the menu item 'Print Project' in the submenu 'File'.

The dialog 'Print Project' appears.

• Activate the radio button 'All'.

• Activate the checkboxes for the worksheets and data to be printed.

• Confirm the dialog 'Print Project'.

Printing parts of a project

It is possible to print only parts of a project which are marked in the project tree. The used
pagelayout for textual or graphical worksheets can be set in the dialog 'Options' on the page
'Pagelayouts'.

Before printing it is recommended to display the page boarders for the worksheets to be printed.
Please refer to the topic Displaying page boarders.

How to proceed:

• Mark the icons in the project tree which contents you want to print. This could be for
example one or several worksheets (see note below), a single POU or the whole subtree
'Logical POUs'.
How to mark several adjacent objects in the project tree:
Mark the first object in the project tree by clicking on it with the left mouse button. Then
press the <SHIFT> key and keep it pressed. Click the last object you want to mark and
release the <SHIFT> key. All objects between the first and the last marked icon are
marked.
How to mark several objects which are not side by side:
Mark the first object in the project tree by clicking on it with the left mouse button. Press
the <CTRL> key and keep it pressed. Click on each object you want to mark.

Before printing it is recommended to display the page boarders for the worksheets to be printed.
Please refer to the topic Displaying page boarders.

Cross references are not printed using the menu item 'Print'. For printing worksheets with cross

Displaying page boarders

Before printing a worksheet it is recommended to display the page boarders for the worksheet to be
printed. If the page boarders are activated they are displayed as blue lines.

Especially for graphical worksheets the boarders allow you to check, whether the whole content of
the worksheet fits on the page. For that purpose it may be necessary to zoom out of the worksheet,
until the whole worksheet and the page boarders are visible.

How to display page boarders:

• Choose the menu item 'Boarders' in the submenu 'Layout'.

The page boarders must be activated separately for each worksheet.

Setting pagelayouts
On the tab 'Pagelayouts' of the dialog 'Options' you can define which pagelayout is used for
printing. This could either be a default pagelayout which was deliverd with your programming
system, or a customized pagelayout, created using the pagelayout editor.

Printing − overview Preview

After editing a particular pagelayout using the pagelayout editor, it has to be stored in the default
directory for pagelayouts. This directory is defined on the tab 'Directories' of the dialog 'Options'.

The factory setting for the default pagelayout directory is

'\Mwt_root_directory\Mwt\pagelayouts'.

To change this setting, choose the menu item 'Options' in the submenu 'Extras' and open the page
'Directories'.

How to proceed:

• Choose the menu item 'Options' in the submenu 'Extras'.

The dialog 'Options' appears.

• Click on the tab 'Pagelayouts'.

The page provides four list boxes used to define pagelayouts for different situations. Each
list box contains all default and customized pagelayouts which are stored in the defined
pagelayout directory.

• In the list box 'Text' choose the pagelayout for textual worksheets, such as description
worksheets, variable worksheets, textual code bodies, cross references, etc. The setting
in the field 'Text' is only relevant when printing parts of the project or a single textual
worksheet.

• In the list box 'Graphic' choose the pagelayout for graphical worksheets, such as code
bodies in FBD, LD or SFC. The setting in the field 'Graphic' is only relevant when printing
parts of the project or a single graphical worksheet.

• In the list box 'Optimized Printing' choose the pagelayout which is used when printing the
whole project at one time.
Optimized printing means, that the project is printed with less paper as possible. All
worksheets are printed one after the other. A new page is only used, if a new POU or a
new step (in SFC) starts. This setting applies for textual worksheets as well as for
graphical worksheets.

• In the list box 'Logic Analyzer' select the pagelayout for the Logic Analyzer paper output.

• Confirm the dialog 'Options'.

Preview
Preview allows to get an appreciation of the appearance of your worksheet as it would be for
printing. It helps you organizing the elements on the page in a clear and structured way.

Preview means that the content of the active window is shown with the associated pagelayout.

Cross references are not displayed using preview.

It is not possible to use preview for worksheets in online mode.
