STATEMENT FROM UN-HABITAT REGARDING PARTICIPATION OF UNITED NATIONS MEMBER STATES

AT THE NINTH SESSION OF THE WORLD URBAN FORUM

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) would like to inform that the World
Urban Forum (WUF) is a non-legislative technical forum convened by UN-Habitat in which experts can
exchange views. Following United Nations procedures for hosting a United Nations conference, the
participation is open to all Member States of the United Nations.

The WUF is recognized as the foremost global arena for interaction among policymakers, local
governments’ leaders, non-governmental stakeholders and expert practitioners in the field of cities and
human settlements. The Ninth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF9) held in Kuala Lumpur from 7
to 13 February 2018 has been a success with 25,000 participants from 165 countries taking part in more
than 560 events based around knowledge and best-practice sharing.

The WUF focus is experience and knowledge sharing on how to shape, plan, build and manage cities in
the coming years bearing on mind the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030.
