Borough Elections - 3 May 2018


This year, Woking Borough Council is working with the Cabinet Office to trial the use of photographic lD
in polling stations. ln order to vote on 3 May 2018, you must bring photo lD.

You will not be able to vote unless you show one of the following forms of identification to polling
station staff. The only identification accepted in polling stations will be one (1) of the following original
docurnonte {photcccpies/digital images will t"rot be accepteC):

o Passport (UK, EU, Commonwealth)


. UK (and Crown Dependency) Photo Driver's Licence (full and provisional licences)
. EU Photo Driver's Licence
. UK Biometric Residence Permit
. Europêan Economic Area Photo ldentity Card
o Northern lreland Electoral ldentity Card
. Surrey Senior Bus Pass
. Surrey Disabled People's Bus Pass
. Surrey Student Fare Card
o 16-25 Railcard
. Rail Season Ticket Photocard

lf you don't have any photo lD listed above, you will need to apply for a free Local Elector Card.
Application forms are available online at www.woking.gov.uk/VoterlD. Hard copies are available from
Electoral Services, on 01483 755855 or email electorcard@woking.gov.uk.

Please read the enclosed leaflet, which gives more information about the accepted lD and the key
dates for the election.

Frequently Asked Questions

Someone in my household hasn't received a letter. What should I do?


Letters have been sent to all electors on the Electoral Register. lf someone in your house has not
received a letter they are not yet on the register. To register to vote, go to www.gov.ukiregister{o-vote.
It is possible to have a paper registration form - please contact Electoral Services using the details
above.

I don't have any of the Photo lD listed. How will I be able to vote?
Woking Borough Council will be issuing free Local Elector Cards to any registered elector who does not
have any of the required photo lD. Electors will need to complete an application form, provide a recent
photo that has been witnessed, and submit supporting documentary evidence. Further details
regarding what documentary evidence will be required can be found at www.woking.gov.uk/voterid.
Details will also be included on the application form.

Why do I need to provide lD?


The government is testing jifferent methods of lD in five areas on 3 May 2018. Electors who do not
provide the correct lD at the polling station will not be issued with a ballot paper.
