INTRODUCTION
In the present section, a piece of research has been critically reviewed.
For this, critiquing tool such as Cormack's Framework has been used. Using
this tool, various sections of the research article have been critiqued.
CRITICAL REVIEW
Anders and et.al. (2010) carried out a study on pressure sores. The
title of the study is “Decubitus Ulcers: Pathophysiology and Primary
prevention”. In the study, authors explored pressure sores which are
complication of multimorbidity and lack of mobility (Anders and et.al., 2010).
The title of the study is clear. The area of research has been clearly
described in the title. However, it does not clearly state the type of the study.
According to Cargill and O'Connor (2011), the title of the research forms an
important part of communication with the readers (Cargill and O'Connor,
2011). However, by reading the title, the reader could not come to know that
a literature review has been conducted by the authors. But, it is capable of
accurately describing the content of paper. Hence, it is not misleading.
Abstract of the study carried out by Anders and et.al. (2010) provides a
clear and concise account of the research. Yin (2008) asserted that abstract
is important as it gives a clear idea of the research. In the present article, the
abstract reports the results (Yin, 2008). However, the abstract of the present
articled does not describe the implications of the results. It can be critically
analyzed that an abstract should give an account of the implications of
results. Literature review has been carried out by the Anders and et.al. (2010)
in the study. The authors have identified existing research on the issues of
pressure sores. Research works carried out by previous researchers were
studied by the authors. According to Yoshii and et.al. (2009), search strategy
is important as it lists the databases to search. It also performs the important

function of articulating the complete set of terms and Boolean operators. In
this way, search strategy is significant as with it relevant research on topic
can be comprehensively identified and retrieved. However, in the study
carried out by Anders and et.al. (2010), search strategy has not been
identified by the authors. Though the authors mentioned that a systematic
literature search was performed in 2004 and 2005 which was followed by a
selective literature search in 2009. but, further details about the search
strategy have not been provided by the authors. However, since the authors
searched for papers on prevention of decubitus ulcers in the year 2009, the
literature review seems to be comprehensive.
Secondary sources of literature were used by the authors. However,
limitation with the secondary sources is that these provide incomplete
information. Though, in major cases, secondary sources provide the
researchers with information that appears valuable and promising (Collins,
Joseph and Bielaczyc, 2004). however, it is not specific to the needs of the
study. But, it can be critically analyzed that secondary sources have ease of
access. A clear description of the literature has not been provided by the
authors. They also did not give a clear discussion of the literature. Rationale
is an important part of every research. It helps in setting the work in the
context of both existing evidence as well as practical applications. However,
Anders and et.al. (2010) did not provide a clear rationale for their study.
Research question forms the corner stone of entire study. It is
important as it introduces the reader to the importance of the topic being
studied. Thus, with research question, the researcher is oriented to the
significance of the study. However, it can be critically analyzed that research
questions have not been stated by the authors in the present study. Hence,
the paper does not tell clearly what the study is aiming to do. The authors
have not adequately described the methods adopted in the study.

Description about the methods provides information about the plan of the
research (Walsham, 2006). Description about methods is important for the
reader so as to know the techniques using which the research was carried
out. However, ti can be critically analyzed that study carried out by Anders
and et.al. (2010) does not provide enough information to let the reader know
the ways in which research was carried out. Hence, the study cannot be
replicated.
Research design helps in cutting down on inaccuracy in a research. It
allows the researcher to get optimum efficiency and reliability. However, it
can be critically analyzed that Anders and et.al. (2010) did not provide any
information about the research design that was adopted for the study. Hence,
the reader has to go through the entire study to find out what has been done
in it. This consumes a lot of time. Also, absence of design raises questions on
the reliability of results of the study. Regarding the measures as well, the
authors did not provide any information. Hence, the reader doe not come to
know what measures were adopted by the authors for carrying out the
present study. It is essential for every research to describe about the
procedure that that was followed for carrying out a research (Ihantola and
Kihn, 2011). It helps the reader to know if the research was conducted by
using a systematic approach. However, in the present study, the authors
have not given details about the procedure that was used for carrying out
the research. Hence, the reader is not able to know how the research was
carried out. It can also be analyzed that the study carried out by Anders and
et.al. (2010) cannot be replicated as no information is provided.
Ethics are significant as these make the research sound on moral
grounds. These provide guidelines for carrying out the research in the
correct manner considering the interests of all those that were involved
(Franklin, 2012). It can be critically analyzed that ethical concerns were not

identified and discussed by the authors. However, as far as the results are
concerned, the authors have clearly laid down the information. The findings
have been clearly described. The study also clearly discusses and analyses

the results. However, no suggestions were made by the authors for future
research. But, it can be critically analyzed that there were several
implications for practice provided by the authors throughout the study.
These can b used in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers buy the
nurses and health care professionals.
CONCLUSION
From the plan it can be concluded that Cormack framework can be
effectively used for critically reviewing the article. Various section of the
research can be comprehensively critiqued using this framework. The study
done by Anders and et.al. (2010) carries a clear and concise abstract.
However, the title of the stud does not tell the reader about the research and
its type. The authors have not provided any description about the methods
used in the research.
