FROM ANALYSIS TO CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:

DESIGNING A COURSE IN HEALTH CARE COMMUNICATION


FOR IMMIGRANT STUDENTS IN THE USA

An analysis is so important for teacher. The teacher must analyze their

students before they give material in teaching process. To make the learning process

get successfully, many ways that can be done for teacher itself. The teacher can be

done interview, observation, questionnaires, and several procedures can be source the

information about the objective needs for students, all of whom are immigrant.

The course speaking and listening in a health-care setting can be developed to

respond to what was identified as students’ area of greatest difficulty. This is useful to

make communicate with client and colleagues in the clinical setting. Many kinds of

content of the course, there are: assertiveness skill, therapeutic communication,

information gathering techniques and the role of culture in health-care

communication. All of them are related with they need in learning process.

This is can help the students to communicate more effectively in clinical

setting. Because of that, the teacher must analyze their students first. This purpose is

to make their program can be running well.

Students population on campus during the academic years, were non native

speakers of English or English as a second language students. Many students in A.S

have taken nursing program. All of them need analyze clearly and based on the
curriculum also. This course focuses on the need of immigrant students in

professional health care program in the USA.
