L & M Exam

1. If you become a nurse manager in the Philippine? What kind of leadership style would you use
and why? (20 pts.)

As I evaluate myself based on my previous experiences, I always have less control to my

people and consider their opinion when making decisions which belongs to a characteristic of a
democratic leader. If I could be a nurse manager, I always hold on to this style because aside
from an open approach style, this kind of leadership creates a shared vision and goals and
encourages the ideas and creativity of others by discussions and invitations of ideas. I always
want to hear opinions by giving chances to others because we are all unique and have different
perspectives and having something in mind doesn’t mean you are always right; you need others
to reach your goals and have success.

and who seems to ‘ticked-off’ everyone by his arrogant ways. He is becoming a problem and a
liability to the hospital organization. How will you settle this problem (techniques) and why?(20

First, power of professionalism - maintaining professional boundaries in nursing must not

always focus only to your patient but everyone who surrounds you to maintain meeting the goal
you are aiming. Taking this kind of behavior personally might distract you and as I professional
chief nurse you must set boundaries, but if he exceeds to your limitation, a good talk will do but
you must first hand evidences by other people who also witness this toxic behavior of his. Getting
some perspective from others but make sure you must understand the person's intention
because some are blissfully unaware of the negative impact that they have on those around them
and studies show that sometime behavior affects when they are undesirable with their work so
and open mind must always win to resolve cases like this.
