G7 MATHS Criteria C and D: A SWEET Presentation.

Inquiry question:
Are food manufacturers ‘secretly’ loading all our food with sugar?
What are the health consequences of consuming too much sugar?

PART 2: Results, Analysis and Reflection

Step 6: [criteria D strand i-iii, L1-4]

Using your answer to step 1, calculate the Percentage increase or (decrease) of your
actual sugar intake compared to your estimate. Explain your workings

Step 7: [criteria C strand ii-iii]

Can you show any of the data in Steps 1-6 with different forms of Mathematical
representation?
[criteria D strand]
Step 8:
Reflect on your results in relation to the inquiry questions. Use Maths to illustrate
your points where possible.

Step 9: [criteria D strand v, L3-8]

Create an Assumption Grid.
This will allow you to explain whether your answers make sense by outlining any
assumptions and limitations in your work.

Hints:
Know the difference between describe, discuss and explain.
To show insight in explanation (L8) show which limitation/assumption are very important by
explaining which could have the largest effect on the final answer.

Step 10: [criteria D strand iv, L5-8]

a) Make sure you have described your degree of accuracy by ensuring every
calculation/measure collected has appropriate notation to show what it has been
rounded to.

b) Explain the Degree of Accuracy you used in the calculation of sucrose in one
meal (step 4).

Hint: Limits of Accuracy.

c) Below is a vegetable nutrition table:

i) The above table is poor as we do not know what each value is

rounded to. Why do I know the above values are rounded and are not
exact?
ii) The carbs values are rounded to a certain amount of significant
figures, state what each must be rounded to.
iii) Let ‘ x ’ be the amount of carbs in grams of 2 cups of a given vegetable.
Calculate x make sure you explain the degree of accuracy you used.

Hint: SIG IN V OUT

Submission:

a) Create a powerpoint that include all your answers and workings above.
b) Students are required to present their powerpoint in class if selected.
c) You are required to talk and there must be visual aids.
d) Professional slickness will aid your communication and organization marks.

Students are required to provide a note from their parents if they are not willing to
present in class.
