Dcis hold several core values that help guide us, one of those values is diversity

Through the DCIS global domain, more specifically, communicate ideas, students are
often encouraged to express themselves in ways which they feel most comfortable with.
Yet to also encourage them to explore new and foreign ideas to them. Communicating
ideas helps every students here at dcis to really go through that experience. Throughout
my classes I selected some pieces of my work that I felt truly embody the idea of
Diversity and Communicate ideas. These artifacts feature work completed from various
classes ranging from physics to english to history I was able to demonstrate the
importance of diversity through communicating ideas.
My first artifact that demonstrates communicating ideas comes from my physics
honors class that I took during my junior year of high school. Physics was a very
important class to me, it was a turning point. Before that I really didn’t like science and
took the classes to merely just get the necessary credit for it. Physics on the other hand
somehow captured my interest, it made me look at things from a different approach. In
one of our class activities we had to present to our class a unique way to connect wires
and batteries to an open circuit. My group and I found a unique new way to do it by
manipulating the amps and voltage of the battery. This demonstrates communicating
ideas because of our ability to share our finding with our peers and teachers.
My second artifact comes from my AP world history class which I also took during my
junior year of high school. In that class we had to read a chapter in our textbooks which
highlighted the revolutionary movements at the beginning of the 19th century. We had
to take notes on that chapter and write an essay regarding our views on these series of
revolutions. I wrote mainly about the french and haitian revolution and how both
impacted each other. My essay demonstrated my use and knowledge of
communicating ideas because I was able to argue my position and views on these
revolutions. I was than able to share my views with my peers during an in class
discussion. In this artifact I was able to communicate ideas and receiving feedback from
my peers.
My third artifact is from my AP literature class. At that time we were reading one of
William Shakespeare famous work called “King Lear” which revolves around a king who
slowly starts losing power over his kingdom till eventually he lost everything including
his life. We conducted an analysis on shakespeare's biography and studied what
prompted him into writing such a play. We then proceeded to make his play come to life
and act out the scenes. This reflects communicating ideas because as a class we
communicated how we envisioned king lear to be. Through our analysis and our play I
personally was able to share my ideas and thought on the works of shakespeare
My fourth and final communicating ideas artifact is from my drama and theater 1 class.
One of the assignments that were presented to us was to write a monologue based of a
character we admired. For me my greatest role model if Muhammad Ali the boxer. This
is because Ali fought a lot of battles in the ring but also a majority outside the ring. I
looked up to him because he defied all expectations and paved the way for others after
him. I decided to write a monologue about his statement and views on why he dodged
the vietnam war draft. After memoring that monologue I presented it to my class. This
ties back to communicating ideas by sharing the ideas of Muhammad Ali with my peers
and teacher.
These four artifacts helped me communicate ideas here at DCIS by challenging me to
share the ideas and perspective of others and to be able to also listen to others
communicate their ideas whether I agree with them or not. Through communicating
ideas I was able to connect to the core value of diversity by exploring this dcis global
domain.
