Following are some suggestions for the due-diligence towards the proposal of the S/4HANA Cloud
solution for FARO including potential resources, activities, and deliverables. These are rooted on SAP
Activate, SAP’s methodology and resources for S/4HANA implementations.

Resources
Following are the pillars of SAP Activate as the methodology for implementing or migrating to S/4HANA.
It is essential for the members of the due-diligence team to be familiar with these:

SAP Best Practices

As with the old methodology, these describe and document the OOB capabilities of the platform
including process models following the BPMN2 standard. Detailed test-scripts provide a step-by-step
procedure for the execution of the process models. Related Master Data, Organizational Structure, and
transaction data required to complete the processes are presented. This is the URL to the site:

Methodology – Project Phases
SAP Activate includes six Project Phases. While there is great value in becoming familiar with all, the
Discover Phase is the one most relevant for a due-diligence initiative:

Is not possible to engage in a due-diligence effort without discovering the solution’s capabilities and
understanding the business values and benefits, and how the adoption strategy would align with FARO’s
existing SAP setup and use as well as SAP’s future roadmap. This is the purpose of the Discover Phase.

Roadmap Viewer
The SAP Roadmap Viewer is the main source of information for the SAP Activate Methodology, which
again is the foundation of the implementation and migration. It is located here:

The entire methodology is presented here including work streams, tasks, and deliverables by project
phase. The site provides descriptions, template, examples, and ‘how-to documents’ to complete tasks.
Many of the things FARO paid for to itelligence to create during the initial implementation are already
provided here.

SAP Activate Jam Spaces

This is a collaboration space for SAP Activate Users to interact with SAP Experts and other users.

version of the SAP Activate methodology content. Great source of learning.

S/4HANA Trial
There is a trial version of Cloud S/4HANA. The access request would start here
https://www.sap.com/cmp/oth/crm-s4hana/s4hana-cloud.html Once access is granted you can go
through guided tours by role for using the platform (i.e. as an A/R Admin). You may also explore the
system unguided and rely on the Help system for instructions and information. Last, there is a Learning
Corner to access Getting Started Guides.

Business Scenario Recommendations (BSR) for S/4HANA

This is a tool that to assess how S/4HANA would stand as a solution for FARO considering usage in our
current SAP system. It is free of charge. After extracting usage from the system, the results are sent to
SAP for the assessment. SAP then sends back the results of the analysis. Here is the link to the guide:

Next Steps?
Following are some recommended activities to get the due diligence started:

1. Execute the BSG in collaboration with SAP

2. Start the exploration of potential S/4HANA Cloud providers, especially about their RFI and RFP
process along with their offering.
3. Conduct an initial assessment of the S/4HANA Best Practices applicable to FARO as a prelude to
defining the Scope of the Implementation.
4. Start learning the SAP Activate methodology phases applicable to FARO’s implementation. If
FARO decides to hire an Integrator (most likely) we want to be as knowledgeable as possible to
interact with them and when suitable challenge their approach and decisions. We all have been
in this business long enough to know that sometimes the try to get away with as little effort as
possible.
