Coffee talk reflection

Women in Religion

Religion has come along way with the role of women. Tonight I learned many

interesting things about women’s roles in various religions. Something’s did know,

but there were something’s I did not know. One thing I learned about Judaism is,

that women were exempt from various rules/laws of the Talmud. The things women

could have been exempt from could be positive or negative. They could also be time

bound, for instance, prayer time. Women might not have to spend the same amount

of time praying or worshiping. One other thing that I learned was in the Jewish

religion women are allowed to play major roles in teaching and preaching to the

people. Whereas In Christianity women kind of sit back and let the men preach and

teach in church

Some other things that were discussed was places that observe religions. For

instance, Christianity came about in the west, but Judaism is observed from in Israel.

Many Jews have travelled and moved to different places. Many Islamic people have

moved from turkey to the United States. In class we have talked about the origins of

religions and to what they have now turned into. Each religion has evolved and

changed. For instance, people worship, live their life, and teach differently now.
