:: Cabling a company or building can get complex. Yet the solution for productive
connectivity and cable management can be as simple as talking to the
right people. The AMP NETCONNECT Group of Tyco Electronics.
The reason is what we bring to the building infrastructure challenges you face.
In-depth technical knowledge and expertise from decades of experience. Innovative
technologies from ongoing R&D. And quality products for every data, voice and video
networking need. The broadest line in the industry, in fact.
More than these, however, it’s what we do to answer the challenge: develop and deliv-
er integrated, made-to-order solutions that optimize network performance, increase produc-
tivity and produce more immediate return-on-investment.
And it’s not just providing technology. It’s making sure solutions are efficiently and effec-
tively installed: working with distributors so products are delivered when and where you
need them. And maintaining a global network of certified installation contractors.
It all means, simply, that AMP NETCONNECT cabling solutions provide the answers
you’re looking for: the whole solution for any cabling challenge. From the ground up.

MT-RJ SECURE Optical Fiber Cabling System
NO EPOXY, NO POLISH CONNECTORS
The MT-RJ SECURE Optical Fiber Cabling System offers all the
features and benefits of the standard MT-RJ System with an extra
advantage for network security. Today’s facilities often employ
more than one network and need a measure of mechanical security
to limit access and prevent inadvertent cross-connection.
The MT-RJ SECURE plugs won't even mate with standard MT-RJ
jacks - only the correct, same-color jacks.

Chapter Summary
:: MRJ 21 provides an application
independent copper platform for
applications today and into the future -
including Gigabit, VoIP & powered Ethernet.
:: The small size of the MRJ 21 connector and
cabling reduces cable bulk in pathways and
spaces, enabling much higher port counts
in a smaller space.
:: Factory termination and testing of the
cassettes provides assurance of pluggable
performance on site. This enables rapid
installation or MACs with pre-tested
quality.
:: The modularity of this solution significantly
reduces time to install or migrate from a
10/100BASE-T 2-pair platform to a Gigabit
Ethernet 4-pair platform. Upgrading is as
simple as unplugging one cassette and
plugging in the new one. The same cable is
re-usable.
:: Cassettes break out high-performance
24-pair solutions to the appropriate wiring
patterns for standards-based 10/100BASE-
T, Gigabit Ethernet, and other applications.
:: Common cable assembly lengths provide
readily available, pluggable solutions,
speeding implementation.
:: Additional hardware options continue to be
released. Contact your sales engineer or
check our website for the latest updates.

Tyco Electronics offers a wide range of high performance, cost-effective AMP NETCONNECT Ethernet Switches. The
AMP NETCONNECT Switches include unmanaged Compact Ethernet Switches, Smart Ethernet Switches with built-in or
optional fiber uplink ports and SNMP Managed Ethernet Switches with optional fiber or twisted pair Gigabit uplink ports.
AMP NETCONNECT's basic, unmanaged Compact Ethernet Switches are ideal for Small Office/Home Office (SOHO), small
workgroup or home networking applications. Smart Ethernet Switches have fiber uplink ports either built-in/fixed (8-Port
switch only) or optional (16- and 24-Port switches) to enable high speed connections to backbones, servers and network
devices over Singlemode or Multimode (50 or 62.5/125µm) fiber using industry standard MT-RJ, SC and ST-Style
connectors. SNMP Managed Ethernet Switches deliver management capabilities required by most network managers using
interfaces such as direct connection to a console port, Telnet, or web browser sessions. Optional fiber or twisted pair uplinks
can be added for high speed network interface. Fiber uplinks include Singlemode and Multimode (50 or 62.5/125µm)
Gigabit (1000BASE-SX or LX) and 100BASE-FX. Optional twisted pair uplink is via an RJ45, 100/1000BASE-T interface.
These uplinks can be used in any combination on the switch to deliver a highly flexible backbone solution.
With an emphasis on high quality, competitive cost and ease of use, AMP NETCONNECT Ethernet Switches are a great
choice for anyone from a home office user to an enterprise IT manager.

The Wireless Solutions Group designs, manufactures, installs and provides ongoing support for wireless communication
networks throughout the United States. Don’t get left behind in this exciting new technology of broadband communications.
A technology as important to the computer professional today as the personal computer was ten years ago!
How to Evaluate Broadband Fixed Wireless
Connectivity for Your Network Application: With the growth of Internet data traffic going through the roof, and the abundant
provision of high capacity fiber optic backbones, the one and only remaining bottleneck is connecting businesses and
consumers to this new supply of bandwidth. Relieving this bottleneck requires flexible, scalable and economic network
solutions that can be installed on demand.
This is the defining opportunity for today: Only those able to meet this growing need with increasingly competitive prices
using rapidly deployable new infrastructure and launching new services will succeed. Broadband fixed wireless
technologies are emerging as an essential ingredient of the product mix to build these networks because they avoid
right-of-way delays and monopolies and most importantly, can deliver “fat pipes” directly to the user.
Building to Building
Building a bridge between networks in two or
more buildings often means overcoming
major barriers such as campus grounds,
Interstate highways, roads or rivers.
Deploying leased lines create high monthly
recurring costs, and using dial-up links
significantly reduce speeds, not to mention
the unwanted busy signals. The wireless
system provides high-speed wireless
bridging between buildings. Distances can
be as far as 30 miles (24 km) while your
network remains safe, secure, and reliable
without recurring monthly charges.

Receiving:
When receiving the innerduct shipment at the job site
· Each pipe shipment should be inspected and inventoried with care upon arrival
· The pipe was inspected and loaded with due care at the factory using methods acceptable to the carrier. It is the
carrier's responsibility to deliver the shipment in good condition, and it is the receiver's responsibility to ensure that
there is no loss or damage
Unloading:
The means by which innerduct is unloaded in the field is the decision and the responsibility of the receiver. These
recommendations should be followed:
1. Remove restraints from the reels. These may be straps, ropes or chains with padding.
2. Using a forklift (or front end loader equipped with forks), remove the reels one at a time from the truck.
3. During the removal and handling, ensure that the reels do not make impact with other objects, especially in cold
weather.
4. Place innerduct reels on level ground.
5. Do not unload reels by hand. Care should be taken to ensure reels are not dropped or damaged.
Storage:
The following procedures are recommended to prevent damage to the innerduct pipe:
1. Store the pipe at the site in reels.
2. Do not stack large reels on top of each other.
3. When small reels are stacked, ensure that the weight of upper reel does not cause deformation to the lower reel.
4. Store lubricant under cover in tightly sealed containers.
5. Protect pipe interior and sealing surfaces from dirt and foreign matter.
6. If you anticipate storing the pipe outside under sunlight for over one year, we advise you cover it with canvas or
other opaque material, being sure to leave adequate air circulation underneath.
Handling:
The following procedures are recommended:
1. When using mechanical equipment, exercise care to prevent damage to pipe.
2. Lower pipes carefully from trucks and into trenches. Do not drop pipe.
3. In freezing temperatures, use caution to prevent impact damage. Handling methods considered acceptable for
warm weather are unacceptable during very cold weather. As the temperature approaches and drops below
freezing, the flexibility and impact resistance of HDPE pipe is reduced. Extra care should be used in handling in
cold weather. Extreme care should be used if innerduct is handled or installed in temperatures below 0°F (-18°C).
4. As with cold temperature, excessive heat can also affect innerduct flexibility, and while pipe affected in this
manner will retain its long-term performance properties, it should be handled with extra care. Avoid exposing the
pipe to welding torches, heaters, and if possible excessive sunlight, which will cause the pipe to discolor. Physical
properties such as pipe stiffness and tensile strength of Innerduct pipe are unaffected by surface discoloration.
However, impact resistance may be reduced slightly. As a result, extra care should be taken during installation and
backfilling. It should be noted that degradation does not continue after Innerduct pipe has been buried.
5. When distributing the pipe along a trench (stringing), place pipe on the opposite side of the trench from the
excavated earth. Place pipe with bell ends in the direction of the work progress.
Installation:
The following procedures are recommended:
1. Innerduct should be cut square using a hand or power saw. Be sure to remove all burs to ensure a proper joint.
2. Use recommended cements to join innerduct with couplings and accessories.
3. Innerduct can be installed in an open trench, direct plowed or installed using trench-less technology methods.
4. Innerduct expands and contracts with temperature changes. If the pipe is expected to contract after installation.
Be sure to snake the pipe in the trench. Conversely, the pipe should be installed straight if expansion is anticipated.
5. Both the bottom of the trench and all backfill materials must be free from stones, rocks, or other sharp debris that
may cause damage to the Innerduct.

ASTM F480-02:
ASTM-F480-02 Standard “Specification for Thermoplastic Well Casing Pipe and Couplings Made in
Standard Dimension Ratios (SDR), SCH 40 and SCH 80”
Specification that covers water well casing pipe and couplings made from thermoplastic materials. Defines
requirements for Standard Dimension Ratios (SDR), Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 piping stated in inch-pounds.
Refers to several other ASTM documents including D2241 and D1785 (full list of referenced documents: D256,

DR:
Dimension Ratio - DR is the ratio of average outside pipe diameter to minimum wall thickness.
DR = (AVGOD/MINWT)
Where:
DR = Dimension Ratio
AVGOD = Average Outside Diameter
MINWT = Minimum Wall Thickness
The typical DR series (see SDR) established by ASTM-F480 is 13.5, 17, 21, 26, 32.5, and 41. The wall thickness
is inversely proportional to the DR rating, in other words, the smaller the DR rating, the thicker the wall. In order
to maintain constant stiffness, pressure rating and collapse strength, the wall thickness of a DR pipe must be
increased with increasing diameter. Therefore, a pipe with either a 2" O.D. with ¼" wall thickness or 6" O.D. with
¾" wall thickness would both have a DR rating of 8. To find the pressure a DR pipe must be able to resist use the
following equation:
P = 2•S/(DR -1)
Where:
P = Pressure in psi
S = Hydrostatic Design Basis (usually 4000psi) divided by the safety factor of 2.0 (as set forth by ASTM
D2241 and D1785)
DR = Dimension Ratio (for D2241, substitute OD/WT for D1785)
HDPE:
High-Density Polyethylene
REFERENCE
wall thickness of Schedule type piping vary from one size to the next. The ratios tend to be directly proportional or
increase with increasing pipe diameter. Because of this, the hydraulic collapse pressure and pipe stiffness are not
consistent for all sizes within a schedule. The stiffness and collapse pressure tend to decrease with increasing pipe
diameter.
Schedule 80:
A standard for pipe sizes that is rated for higher operating pressure than most SDR pipe at smaller diameters. As the
pipe diameter of schedule 40 pipe increases, the maximum operating pressure rating drops steadily, unlike for SDR
pipe.
SDR:
Standard Dimension Ratio - A constant DR (Dimension Ratio, see DR) as defined in ASTM F480-02 (D2241) using
the Preferred Numbers 13.5, 17, 21, 26, 32.5, and 41. The ratio of a given SDR series is a constant value regardless
of actual pipe diameter.
