High-Voltage DC Relay
FTR-J2/FTR-K2W Series
FUJITSU COMPONENT has introduced relays as the key device for DC distribution
systems, which are currently under the spotlight as they contribute significantly to
advancing society while reducing CO2 and preventing global warming. “FTR-J2 Series”
are relays for high-voltage DCs that are optimal for server feeding in data centers and
so forth.“ FTR-K2W Series”are relays for medium-voltage and high-current DCs that
are ideal for battery protection in communication base stations and so forth.

Introduction Difficulties in high-voltage

DC switching
In recent years, the so-called DC distribution system to feed
electric power to various electronic devices in direct current When AC power is switched with a relay contact, the AC
(DC) has been under the spotlight. Most electronic and electric voltage drops to zero in a few milliseconds even when the contact
devices, including IT devices such as infrastructure servers opening point is at the AC peak value since there are zero-
and AV devices for home application, operate on DC power cross points, as shown in Figure 2. Since the arc created in relay
supplies. Since commercial power is supplied as alternating contact switching is extinguished at the zero-cross point, it is easy
current (AC), it is used with conversion from AC to DC, and to switch even under high voltage. The direct current, however,
the conversion loss is released as heat. DC distribution system is has no zero-cross section and the arc generated by contact opening
currently considered a helpful method in the effective utilization continues. This arc has thermal energy equivalent to 3,000℃,
of electric power and the prevention of heat release as it eliminates
the conversion loss. The utilization of IT is inevitable in the
construction of a sustainable society. As such, the number of
servers and related devices installed as part of the infrastructure Photo 1 External View (FTR-J2) Photo 2 External View (FTR-K2W)
will undoubtedly increase. In this context, the examination of
distribution systems with minimal conversion losses has already
begun. Servers and their related devices are equipped with
uninterruptible power supply devices composed of storage
batteries in case of outage, momentary interruptions, or voltage
drops in the commercial electrical power. In data centers and so
forth, AC/DC conversion is executed at least three times. Interest
is growing in high-voltage DC distribution systems that execute
conversion only once.

center.
