Susan B Anthony

Susan Brownell Anthony was an American social reformer and women’s rights

activist who played a role in the women’s suffrage movement. She was born in Adams,

Massachusetts. She dedicated her life to the cause of women’s rights, she wanted to

fight against slavery. During her journey, she ran into Elizabeth Cady Stanton as they

work together to organize the National Women Suffrage Association in 1869. Anthony

traveled, lectured, and canvassed across the nation for the vote. She also campaigned

for the abolition of slavery, and the right for women to own their own property. She

seeked so many opportunities to stand up for herself and every other women. She truly

inspires a lot of people in the world.

Her character was well poised; she did not emphasize one characteristic to the

exclusion of others. She taught us that the real beauty of a true life is found in the

harmonious blending of diverse elements. She merged a sense of justice with the

deepest love. Her masterful intellect never for one moment checked the tenderness of

her emotions. She demonstrated the divine principle that the truest self-development

must go hand in hand with the greatest and service for others. A living soul whose

individuality was blended into one with all humanity. She lived, yet not she: humanity
lived in her. She knew that where freedom is there is the center of power. She was

completely honored by those who was inspired by her work.

“Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less.”

Meaning, women just want their rights and the power to vote and/or stand up for

ourselves. “Independence is happiness.” I declare to you that women must not depend

upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself…” Women do not

need any men to survive, we are capable of living on our own with no support from men.

Women are very strong and independent individuals. “Equal pay for equal work.” Pay us

the same amount you pay men because women can and are allowed to do the

same/equal work as men and we deserve to be paid equally. Anthony used this quotes

to influence people as she campaigned for women’s rights. Not only did she work for

women’s rights, she helped bring about the abolition of slavery. Susan B Anthony

played a large part in the history of our country. She was always very aggressive and

compassionate by nature. She had a keen mind and a great ability to inspire. She

remained active until her death on March 13th, 1906.
