Universal
Design
for
Learning
(UDL):
BrainPop
offers
a
section
especially
for
ELLs
to
help
them
learn
and
achieve
in
their
native
language
while
they
are
in
the
process
of
learning
English.
For
this
particular
lesson,
there
is
a
section
called
“basic
adjectives”
under
the
ELL
BrainPop
that
could
assist
Spring

Instructional
Software
students
in
learning
adjectives.
This
feature
also
contributes
as
a
support
for
parents
at
home
so
they
can
access
the
videos
in
their
native
language
and
help
their
children
with
their
schoolwork.
Another
UDL
that
could
be
used
is
headphones
so
the
students
can
watch
videos
at
their
own
pace
by
pausing,
stopping,
or
rewinding
without
bothering
other
students.
Lesson
idea
implementation:
The
teacher
will
introduce
the
topic
of
adjectives
by
showing
the
students
the
BrainPop
video
that
briefly
explains
what
adjectives
are.
The
teacher
will
then
hold
a
conversation
with
the
students
after
the
video
by
asking
them
to
provide
examples
of
adjectives
and
how
they
are
used.
The
teacher
will
then
ask
the
students
to
describe
things
around
them,
particularly
in
the
classroom
setting.
After
the
students
get
a
grasp
on
the
concept
of
adjectives
then
the
teacher
will
introduce
the
project,
Awesome
Adjectives
that
Describe
Me,
to
the
students.
This
project
will
be
completed
over
a
span
of
3
days.
The
students
will
draw
a
picture
of
them
and
then
write
multiple
adjectives
around
the
picture
that
describes
them.
These
adjectives
might
describe
their
physical
features
or
characteristics
about
themselves.
The
object
of
this
lesson
is
to
allow
students
to
explore
basic
adjectives
while
building
self-‐confidence
about
them.
The
student’s
learning
will
be
assessed
based
on
how
many
adjectives
they
came
up
with
or
if
they
were
even
able
to
complete
the
activity.
Teacher
will
require
them
to
at
least
record
5
adjectives
about
themselves,
but
they
will
be
encouraged
to
write
as
many
as
they
can
think
of.
The
final
project
will
be
used
to
differentiate
learning
because
each
student’s
drawing
of
them
and
their
adjectives
will
vary,
which
will
provide
other
students
with
knowledge
of
new
adjectives
that
they
might
not
have
thought
of
on
their
own.
The
teacher
will
extend
this
lesson
for
higher
thinking
by
giving
them
different
topics
to
describe
aside
from
themselves.
For
example,
the
teacher
might
bring
in
different
foods
to
class
and
the
students
will
describe
how
it
tastes,
smells,
or
even
looks.
This
extension
will
require
the
students
to
explore
their
5
senses
while
learning
more
than
just
the
basic
adjectives.
As
a
conclusion
to
this
lesson
on
adjectives,
the
students
will
each
share
their
picture
of
them
along
with
the
adjectives
they
wrote.
Reflective
Practice:
I
designed
this
lesson
as
a
simple
introductory
to
adjectives.
I
believe
that
that
describing
yourself
is
a
good
start
to
grasping
the
concept
of
adjectives.
I
also
thought
this
would
be
a
good
way
for
students
to
express
themselves
and
their
cultural
identities.
Along
with
these
benefits
I
thought
it
would
be
engaging
for
the
students
to
do
a
fun
activity
while
really
learning
what
adjectives
are.
As
mentioned
above,
I
could
extend
this
lesson
in
many
ways.
I
could
bring
in
food
or
other
objects
to
allow
students
to
explore
their
five
senses
by
using
more
in
depth
adjectives
such
as
delicious,
smelly,
round,
loud,
etc.
Overall,
I
think
this
activity
is
a
good
introductory
for
first
graders
and
learning
basic
adjectives.
