INTRODUCTION
• Fault causes damage.
• Correct identification leads to correct solution.
• All instruments must be saved from damage.

Objectives

Main Objective:
1. To build a device capable of detecting faults in power lines so as to protect the instrument
connected to it.
Specific Objective:
1. To detect:
• Line to line fault
• Under voltage fault
• Over voltage fault
2. To display all the fault or no-fault information in LCD.
3. To isolate the load connected to device incase of fault.

Application
• This device can be used with power instruments in industries or hospitals
or any place else where the use of three phase power instruments occur.

Limitations
• This system only isolates the load which is directly connected to it.
• Line to line, under voltage and overvoltage are the only types of fault our system can detect.
• The system can function only with the input voltage that is equal to or less than 240 V.

Literature survey
1. Microcontroller based fault detector:
• Detects line to line faults.
• Isolates the connected device in case of faults.
2. A Microcontroller Based Online Fault Detection System:
• Construction of a device for fault detection using a PIC16F877 microcontroller.
• Over-voltage and under-voltage faults defined if the voltage exceeds/ lags the normal voltage by 10% more than 1
minute.
3. DESIGN ANALYSIS AND REALIZATION OF MICROCONTROLLER BASED OVER CURRENT RELAY
WITH IDMT CHARACTERISTICS: A PROTEUS SIMULATION:
• Device to protect a load from over-voltage, over-current and under-voltage faults.
• System is constructed by using 8051, relay and circuit breaker.

Conclusion: Expected Outcomes
1. The system will be able to detect:
• Line to line fault
• Over voltage fault
• Under voltage fault
2. The system will be able to display the fault and no-fault information in the LCD.
3. The system will be able to isolate the load in case of fault.

Conclusion

• Hence, a device that can detect line to line, over voltage and under voltage faults is to be created.
• The device will make it easier to detect the type of fault.
• The time schedule is fixed.
