Unit 2 Lesson 1: Sizing of HANA

Sizing of HANA

- Based mainly on required main memory size

- Can be done by SAP Sizing Expert ( For Big Projects), Quick Sizer, or use Sizing Report in source
database
- Memory size depends on amount of data that is to be stored in memory
- Data is compressed in HANA, compression factor depends on the scenario

Disk Space Required for Data Volume

- Recommended size of data volume for HANA system = Calculated Results + 20% Free Space
- Size(Data) = 1.2x Net Data Size on Disk

Disk Space Required for Log Volume

- Minimum size depends on number of data changes occurring between two HANA Savepoint
- Default 5 mins
- Check p24 of book for Log Volume Size Recommendatioons

Sizing HANA Using Quick Sizer

- Calculates CPU, DISK, Memory, and I/O Resource Categories

Unit 2 Lesson2: Requirements

Single-host system– one host and server. Need to handle full query load

Multi-host system – more than one host, can have active worker host and idle standby hosts, load can
be balanced between different hosts

Host – hardware and operating environment, SUSE Linux and Redhat, provides all resources and services
(CPU, Memory, network and storage)

System – one or more instances with same SAP System ID and instance number

Instance – HANA instance is set of SAP HANA system components installed on one host, instances can be
distributed but on multiple host
HANA on Prod can’t share infrastructure with another HANA System, host running more than one HANA
system can be used for non-production purposes such as development, QA, Testing

Unit 3 Lesson 1: Installation

Relocation of HANA

- Must be deregistered and re registered into the new hardware

Unit 3 Lesson 3: HANA Studio Installation

HANA Studio

- Enables technical users to manage HANA Database, to create and manage user authorization,
models od data
- To access local or remote SAP HANA DB

Unit 3 Lesson 4: Performing a Distributed System Installation

Host Types

- Worker – machines process data

- Standby – machines do not handle any processing just waiting to take over processes in the case
worker machine fails
- F

Unit 4 Lesson 1: Post Installation Steps

Solution Manager

- Hostagent – has to communicate with HANA Database

- Diagnostic Agent – Diag Agent has to communicate with HostAgent
- Solutions Manager – diag agent has to be assigned to a solution Manager

Unit 4 Lesson 2: Updating SAP HANA

- Two Ways: Command Line (HDMLCM) and HDMLCMGUI ( gui)

- Used for system installation and Update

Update Process

- Make sure no read or write process are running in HANA Database

- Perform update process during offline mode in business downtime
- Steps
o Stop all Processes
o Backup System if necessary
o Perform an Update
o Update Depending Components
o Perform Post-Update Steps
o Restart All processes

HANA Life Cycle Manager tool can perform

- Add additional hosts to HANA System

- COnfig System Landscape Directory
- Rename HANA Systems
- Uninstall HANA Component
- Unregister HANA System
- Install or Update additional components

Manage HANA Application content

- Supports in all phases of HANA Application lifecycle

o Modeling your product structure, application development, transport, assemble and
install
- Import HANA Content in HANA Studio
o File  Import  HANA Content  Delivery Unit

Phase Update

- After SPS10, you can divide update into two, to reduce downtime
- Prerequisites
o Updating to new SPS from installation medium
o Have stopped data replication
o Performed a system backup
o Know DB administrator passwords
o Applied a valid key for HANA System
o Installed or updated HANA DB LifeCycle Manager SPS 10 or later
o DB server is running

Unit 4 Lesson 3: Revision Strategy of SAP HANA

Different HANA Revision Strategy

- HANA Revision – fixes for HANA core components

- Support Package – support for all non core componenets like host agent and Smart Data Access
- Support Package Stack – new capabilities released only twice a year
- HANA Maintenance Reivision – addresses major bugs critical to functionality in HANA Scenarios,
bugs with non-existing workaround, minor code dependencies and code changes or impact
- HANA Datacenter Service Point

Unit 5 Lesson 1: HANA Memory Management and Data Persistence

Core Processes

- Daemon – start all other processes and keep them running

- Index Server – Main DB process and Data Loads, Queries, Calculations and provide embedded
statistics
- Name Server – knows DB Lanscape and DB Distribution
- Preprocessor – feed unstructured data
- Compile Server – performs compilation of stored procedures and programs
- XS Engine – web service component, application server
- WEB Dispatcher – Entry point for Http Requests
- Start Service – responsible for starting and stopping other services

Unit 6 Lesson :1 Administration Tool Overview

Admin Tools

HANA Studio – main tool for general system administration and monitoring tasks

HANA Cockpit – web-based, admin and monitoring single HANA DB, on fiori Launchpad

DBA Cockpit – monitor and administer HANA Database, can schedule backup and config logging

SAP Solutions Manager – integrate SAP Sol Man and SAP Business Application, basic admin and
monitoring features

SAP HANA HDBSQL – command line tool for executing commands in HANA DB

Unit 6 Lesson 2: HANA Studio and HANA Cockpit

Unit 6 Lesson 4: DBA Cockpit

- Platform independent, monitor and administer databases from AS-ABAP environment

- Allows remote monitoring of HANA DB using Soltions manager
- Same functionalities as HANA Studio but can do remote.
