Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding key concepts of logic and reasoning.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to communicate mathematical thinking with coherence and clarity in
formulating and analyzing arguments.
At the end of the lesson the learner M8GE-IIIa -1
Describes mathematical system M8GE-IIIa-c-1
Illustrates the need for an axiomatic structure of a mathematical system in M8GE-IIId -1
general, and in geometry in particular; (a) defined terms; (b) undefined M8GE-IIId-e-1
terms; (c) postulates; and (d) theorems.
Illustrates triangle congruence.
Illustrates the SAS, ASA and SSS congruence postulates.
Learning Target/s:
a. Use inductive or deductive reasoning in an argument, and
b. Write a proof, both direct and indirect.
Day 1 (Explore)
What to know
Lets begin this lesson by finding out what congruent triangles are. As you go over the activities, keep this question
in mind. “When are two triangles are congruent”
Observe an object around you and describe it as for its length of side, the vertices, and the
shape of the polygon and the possible use of geometry for the next object that will be depend
on it.
Two Triangles are congruent if their vertices can be paired so that corresponding sides are
congruent and corresponding angles are congruent.
Activity # 3
SAS (Side – Angle – Side) Congruence Postulate
Prepare a rule, a protractor, a pencil, a bond paper, and a pair of scissors
Works in groups of four.
Do the following activity
1. Draw a 15cm segment
2. Name it BE.
3. Using your protractor, draw angle B equal to 70 degrees.
4. From vertex B, Draw BL measuring 18cm long
5. Draw LE
6. What figure is formed?
7. Compare the figure you have drawn with the figures drawn by the other members of your group.
8. What can you say about the figures? Justify your answer.
Activity # 4
ASA (Angle – Side – Angle) Congruence
Prepare the following materials: pencil, ruler protractor , pair of scissors
Working independently use a rule and a protractor to draw ∆𝐵𝑂𝑌 with two angles and the included side having the
following measures: 𝑚∠𝐵 = 50 , 𝑚∠𝑂 = 70 and BO = 18cm.
1. Compare the triangle you have drawn with the triangles drawn by four of your classmates.
2. What can you say about the triangle.
Day 3(Deepen)
For each figure prove that two triangles are congruent.
Figure Proof
Day 4(Transfer)
Activity: Form a group with 6 members and Make an infographics about the SAS, ASA, SSS Congruence postulate.
Discuss it with your classmates.
