If education is the key to success, then why are some people successful even though they have

poor education?

Education is one of the most universal foundation that determine a person’s future status.

Depending on the level of success you’re seeking to achieve, the level of education may be relative,

but the bottom line is, an education of some sort is often paramount to future success (Santiago,

2017). Here in the Philippines, Filipinos value education like a treasure and are willing to sacrifice

anything for it for they believe that it is the key to success and for them to overcome poverty and

hardships in life. But then, how come there are students who finished college but are still

unemployed? A numerous amount of students in college care more about grades than knowledge;

some graduate having forgotten everything they ever learned. So there goes a college graduate

with little knowledge and no skills, the reason why they can’t find a job.

According to Darwin (1869), in relation to his famous phrase “survival of the fittest”, it is

not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to

change. If we relate that to education and becoming successful, it only means that education is just

another factor to become successful in life, alongside with grit – combination of passion,

perseverance and consistency. Other people who have become successful despite of having poor

education such as Edgar ‘Injap’ Sia II, were able to cope up with life because of holding on to that

other factor we call ‘grit’. For me, there is no exact formula to become successful, because I believe

that your future lies on what you do today.

“Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do consistently.”
