2.Diaphragm Method
In shell object method we will Design the Wind on particular surface using Shell.
In this method first we have to create wall at zero mark and define the
Click on Set Elevation view icon Select ‘A’ side view (Left side view)
ApplyOk.
Select one storey option on right side bottom. Click Quick Draw Floor/Wall
Auto Lateral load= Indian IS 875- 1987 Add New Load Ok.
Select Wind X+ Click on Modify Lateral load to specify Wind Load parameter.
In the Wind Load Pattern IS 875-1987 select Exposure from Shell Objects. Fill the
required parameters as per IS 875-1987 Wind speed, Terrain category,Structure
class, k1, k3 factors and exposure height and click Ok.
Similarly select Wind Y- Click on Modify Lateral load to specify Wind Load
parameter.
In the Wind Load Pattern IS 875-1987 select Exposure from Shell Objects. Fill the
required parameters as per IS 875-1987 as in Wind X+ and click Ok Ok.
3. Assign Wind Load :
We have to draw the Shell objects all around the structure (X+. X-, Y+, Y-)
directions.
We have to apply the Diaphragm for all floors (from storey 1). After that we will get
the centre of gravity point of slabs
Wind Loads :
In ETABS there are two ways to define lateral loads (Wind, earth quake). Built in
option will automatically calculate lateral loads as per available design codes.
Load = X or Y
Type = Wind
Auto Lateral load =IS 875—1987 Add New Load Select wind X load
and click on modify lateral loads to specify required wind load parameter. As
per IS 875 Ok Ok.
