CONCERTO SOLOIST COMPETITION

Eligibility: All sophomore and junior members in good standing in the 2008-2009 YOBC
Symphony Orchestra and/or Wind Ensemble, who will participate in the 2009-
2010 season, are eligible. Applicants for the competition may audition on wind,
string or percussion instruments, including piano.

Awards: Winners will receive a cash award and each will have an opportunity to perform
with the Symphony Orchestra or the Wind Ensemble at either our Fall Concert in
November 2009 or at our Spring Concert in April or May of 2010. Our Music
Director and judges will determine the number of winners and the performance
dates.

Requirements: Candidates must prepare one movement, two contrasting movements or an entire
concerto for concert band, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, or string
orchestra suitable for performance by either the Symphony Orchestra or Wind
Ensemble. The length of the selection must be between 7 and 12 minutes
including repeats. Any questions concerning the suitability of the selection
should be directed to Mr. Loughran or Mr. Sweetsir.

Audition Date: Auditions will be held Saturday, May 30th, 2009, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.
YOBC will provide an accompanist who will work with each candidate for up to
30 minutes immediately prior to the audition. Candidates will be notified by mail
of the results by June 15th, 2009.

Procedure: Interested members should submit an application with $25 non-refundable

application fee to Mr. Loughran by February 15, 2009. A copy of your selection
with piano accompaniment must be submitted to Mr. Loughran no later than
March 15th, 2009. It would be appreciated if you would submit a copy of your
music as soon as possible. You will receive a letter confirming your audition time
by April 26th, 2009. We will attempt to honor requests for audition times which
are sent with your application. No changes will be made in the schedule after
confirmations are mailed. Applicants not complying with the procedures or not
meeting the deadlines will be disqualified. .
