1 Introduction
A lot of improvements and enhancements of existing features have been included in the recent
release of ROMES 4.67.
The table below summarizes the most important features and their benefits.
Feature Benefit
Filename resolver During loading a workspace time may be saved when searching for
cancelling correlated files is switched off
Options when Setting additional options improves workflow and saves time
opening workspace/
measurement file
Differentiation of Cells of different frequencies (e.g. in UMTS) may be shown in
frequencies in same different colours to clearly identify them
technology
BTS Transmitter When installing a new ROMES version, existing BTS databases
Database with new may be kept instead of being deleted
ROMES version
TSMW loading from If a TSMW is not found by its default IP address, ROMES helps to
workspace identify and connect the unit
3GPP2 mobiles in CDMA2000/EV-DO mobiles now are supported by the NQA to
NQA state view identify dropped calls, blocked calls, etc.
Handoff events for Similar to GSM/WCDMA, events now signal handoffs, e.g. on the
CDMA2000 mobiles map
LAC/RAC signal LACs and RACs have been shown from different sources. Now they
reorganization are clearly differentiated.
Qualcomm TD-LTE Together with the TSMW, TD-LTE networks may be measured
mobile support using a mobile now.
New LTE events Calculation of additional LTE KPIs are possible now.
LTE RB allocation by RB allocation is shown now to inform the user about traffic and
mobile assignment algorithms of the network.
TEDS support TETRA 2 (TEDS) support by the TSMW
DQA Report Different types of application errors can be differentiated and shown

identification
HTTP download HTTP downloads represent the real user behaviour much more than
the previously used FTP.
DQA templates DQA templates may be made now generically and applied to
different mobiles
TCP settings Several TCP settings may be defined and manipulated to improve
adaptation the throughput performance
Quick technology Different signals of all used technologies may now centrally be
configuration in switched on and off to quickly see the difference.
ROMESMAP
Force Indoor Input In combined environments (GPS yes/no) the indoor input can be
forced now to perform such measurements easier
New Geo referencing A new tool allows easier and more accurate referencing of maps and
tool floor plans. Also patching of earlier made measurements is possible.
2 Base Software
2.1 Cancel Filename Resolver
During loading a workspace ROMES tries to find all files which are associated with the
workspace. Depending on the amount of files this may take up to several minutes, especially
if the file cannot be found on the computer. Now it is possible to cancel this process and to
continue loading the workspace. Cancelling the process only cancels the automatic
reassignment of the files. The workspace will be loaded with all files, which are at the path
the workspace has stored.
When a new ROMES version is installed, a new network provider database will be installed
as well. In former versions the currently used database was overwritten with the database of
the new ROMES version. Now, if the currently used database differs from the originally
installed one, the user will be asked, if he wants to continue using the current database, which
may contain the user’s adaptations, or if he wants to use the new database which is coming
along with the new ROMES version.
1) The user can continue loading the workspace without the TSMW drivers.
2) The user can manually enter a new IP address.
3) If a TSMW could be detected ROMES offers a third option to use this automatically
detected TSMW.
If the loading process of the TSMW still fails, the usual dialog will appear, which allows the
user to retry or to specify new links (which means a new IP address in the case of TSMW
drivers). If you like to specify new links here, you have to do this for each driver separately.
In this case please verify the distribution of the TSMWs after having loaded all desired
drivers.
You can change this option later in the preferences dialog still.
Note: After a new version is installed the directory will be synchronized again until the user
switches off the process. The related registry key will not be taken over from the former
ROMES version.
3 Transmitter Database
3.1 UMTS Database
A new field allows the user to import the scrambling code as code set. The field SC requires
the scrambling code (0…8191), the new field CODESET allows the user to put the code set
(0…511) into the table.
4 3GPP2 Mobiles
4.1 NQA Sate View
The NQA State View now supports also CDMA2000 mobiles. To do so, also the CDMA only
mobiles will now send the NQA data via the GSM data structure, so that the GSM branch will
be visible. The information element “Mode” of the branch RAT Info and the information
element “CS Phone Mode” of the branch Server Report are used.
4.2 Events
New Events were introduced in order to track 3GPP2 Handoffs.
5 GSM/UMTS Mobiles
5.1 LAC/RAC Signals
The LAC/RAC Signals have been reorganized. The following signals are now available:

flow.
LAC (2G, registered PS) The 2G Location Area Code of the Packet Switched Domain to
which the UE is registered concerning the layer 3 message
flow.
LAC (2G, last read on SIB) The last 2G Location Area Code which was read out of a
system information message.
RAC (2G) The 2G Routing Area Code which is reported by the trace
messages of the Test UE.
RAC (2G, registered) The 2G Routing Area Code to which the UE is registered
concerning the layer 3 message flow.
RAC (2G, last read on SIB) The last 2G Routing Area Code which was read out of a system
information block.
The 3GPP Overview View shows the values which reflect the values received by the trace
messages of the Test UE.
6 LTE
The following new LTE bands are available in ROMES now:
FDD 25
TDD 41, 42, 43
7 LTE Mobiles
7.1 TD-LTE
TD-LTE is now fully supported for Qualcomm chipsets. Additional parameters of the LTE
Serving Cell Branch inform about the current configuration:
In addition to the standard RRC Events a special event for all rrcConnectionReconfigurations
which contain a mobilityControlInfo was added. This allows the user to follow the handover
procedures in LTE. The name of the event is mobilityControlInfo* (the asterisk indicates that
the event is associated with the content of a layer 3 message).
The result can be observed in the LTE Mobile HARQ View. Each line of the RB Allocation
field represents a Resource Block, starting with RB 0 at the top. The field has always 110
lines reserved.

DQA Job HTTP Download
The download of single files with a size greater than 5MB will not be stored to a file in the
target folder to avoid memory exhaustion. However the calculation of the transfer data rates
will be continued. This note appears in the HTTP Download Configuration Dialog.
The DQA Jobs list box shows the configured jobs of the template.
For every DQA job in the left hand side list box an available device can be selected now.
When confirmed with OK, each job will use its selected device. When pressed Cancel, each
job uses the initially selected device.
Loading a template with a Connect, FTP and Disconnect Job when two mobiles are connected
to the PC:
For the Connect Job, two modems are available. Now an entry in the Available Devices list
box can be selected. When confirmed with OK, the selected device will be used for the
Connect Job. When pressed Cancel, the initially selected device will be used.
The available devices list box shows only available devices, which are not used by other
instances of the DQA driver.
12 GPS Drivers
12.1 Synchronization of System Time
The validity of the received time is now checked before the system time is set.
ublox drivers take the time from the sentence TIMEUTC. The accuracy has to be at least 0.1
seconds before the system time will be updated.
NMEA drivers take the time from the RMC sentence. The data valid flag has to be set to ‘A’
before the system time will be updated.
13 Navigation
13.1 Views
The new dialog on the left has the title “Tec (technology) feature switch”.
Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 32 of 39
New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012
The upper part of the dialog shows the grid of switches for the visibility of mobile
technologies like CDMA, GSM etc. and the lower part shows the switches for the indoor
features.
Besides the already known switches for layer visibility and underlay (etc.) visibility, which
were scattered across many different menus and configuration pages, some new switches have
been added:
- switches for the BTS symbol layers
- general switches for all features of technologies
- general switches for features (independent of technology)
- Indoor main switch
- Indoor hotspot switch
The configuration must be confirmed by pressing the OK (or Apply) button, or it can be
cancelled (reset to its previous state)
The Dialog itself is a windows control bar and can be opened by going to the button on the
left border of the view. Like the other control bars it can be docked and undocked or have
automatic open/close.
The configuration items so far have not been removed from the menus and technology
configuration pages and also the ALT+Control keyboard controls are unchanged and still
operating.
In the Indoor Control Panel of the Route Track View Force Indoor can also be switched off
and on, when Indoor is active. Switching Force Indoor off has only effect when there is good
GPS health.
For the new map referencing tool further improvements are planned.
When selected an indoor measurement file, the file will be searched for included maps and
measured geographical coordinates. When finished analyzing, the following dialog appears.
The included maps and the number of coordinates to be patched are displayed. Press Start to
start the new Map Geo Referencing Wizard.
The first image of the list will be shown and can be referenced (you may need to adjust the
zoom level first).
After the input of the longitude and latitude coordinates, press Run to reference the image.
The next image of the list will appear.
When the last image of the list was referenced, the application will be closed and the new
coordinates will be written to the measurement file. This new measurement file has the suffix
_referenced appended to the original file name.
When all was done successfully, the following dialog appears:
Press Open File for replay to open the referenced measurement file in ROMES.
Press Exit to proceed with any other action.
Note:
It is only possible to display geo referenced images together with MapInfo maps in the
ROMES Route Track View. Displaying together with other formats like
OpenStreetMap is not supported.
