New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

1 Introduction
A lot of improvements and enhancements of existing features have been included in the recent
release of ROMES 4.67.
The table below summarizes the most important features and their benefits.
Feature Benefit
Filename resolver During loading a workspace time may be saved when searching for
cancelling correlated files is switched off
Options when Setting additional options improves workflow and saves time

configuration in switched on and off to quickly see the difference.
ROMESMAP
Force Indoor Input In combined environments (GPS yes/no) the indoor input can be
forced now to perform such measurements easier
New Geo referencing A new tool allows easier and more accurate referencing of maps and
tool floor plans. Also patching of earlier made measurements is possible.

2 Base Software
2.1 Cancel Filename Resolver
During loading a workspace ROMES tries to find all files which are associated with the
workspace. Depending on the amount of files this may take up to several minutes, especially
if the file cannot be found on the computer. Now it is possible to cancel this process and to
continue loading the workspace. Cancelling the process only cancels the automatic
reassignment of the files. The workspace will be loaded with all files, which are at the path
the workspace has stored.

2.2 Options when Opening Workspace or Measurement Files

The File Open Dialogs for Workspace and Measurement Files offer additional options in
addition to the standard Windows file dialogs. It was not possible to configure these options,
when a file was loaded as “recent”, means directly via the File Menu.
From version 4.67 dialogs will pop up which allows the user to configure the same options as
available in the normal File Open Dialogs.
Opening Workspaces:

Opening Measurement Files:

2.3 Network Provider Database

In order to be able to distinguish different UARFCN/EARFCN by colour on the map it is
necessary to define different bands in the network provider database. In former ROMES
versions it was already possible to define different bands for the different technologies, but it
was not possible to distinguish the UMTS/LTE bands by channel number.
The current version allows the user to define the same band twice with different channels.
Both of the band can be associated with different colours.

When a new ROMES version is installed, a new network provider database will be installed
as well. In former versions the currently used database was overwritten with the database of
the new ROMES version. Now, if the currently used database differs from the originally
installed one, the user will be asked, if he wants to continue using the current database, which
may contain the user’s adaptations, or if he wants to use the new database which is coming
along with the new ROMES version.

New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

2.4 Deleting the History of ComboBoxes

A double click on the arrow on the right hand side of a combobox (which usually opens the
drop down list) with the right mouse button while keeping the control key pressed will open
the following dialog, which allows the user to delete the history of the combobox.

2.5 Disabling the Balloon Tooltips

It is now possible to disable the balloon tooltips in the preferences dialog. These tooltips
usually appear if the mouse is over a ROMES Signal.

2.6 TSMW Loading from Workspace

If the user tries to load a workspace with TSMW drivers and the TSMW cannot be found on
the IP address which was configured in the workspace, ROMES will offer the following
options:

Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 8 of 39

New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

1) The user can continue loading the workspace without the TSMW drivers.
2) The user can manually enter a new IP address.
3) If a TSMW could be detected ROMES offers a third option to use this automatically
detected TSMW.
If the loading process of the TSMW still fails, the usual dialog will appear, which allows the
user to retry or to specify new links (which means a new IP address in the case of TSMW
drivers). If you like to specify new links here, you have to do this for each driver separately.
In this case please verify the distribution of the TSMWs after having loaded all desired
drivers.

2.7 Skip Synchronizing the Directory Structure

This process synchronizes the applications data directory with the corresponding directory of
the current user. This may be important, after a new version was installed, or new data shall
be distributed to all users.
As this process may take quite a long time – especially if the users directory is mounted onto
a network drive - it is desirable to have the possibility to skip this process.
If the process takes more than one second ROMES asks the user if he wants to skip this
process in future. Press “skip” and ROMES will not try to synchronize the directories when
starting in future. If you still want to synchronize, but you don’t want to get this automatically
generated option, press “Don’t Skip” and check “Don’t ask again”.

Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 9 of 39

New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

You can change this option later in the preferences dialog still.
Note: After a new version is installed the directory will be synchronized again until the user
switches off the process. The related registry key will not be taken over from the former
ROMES version.

2.8 HTML Report with Route Track View

The HTML Report normally resizes the views in order to make the screenshot for the HTML
report. For several reasons this resizing method will not work for the Route Track View. The
HTML Report was now adapted in a way that the screenshot will be taken from the Route
Track View as is at the point in time when taking the screenshot.

3 Transmitter Database
3.1 UMTS Database
A new field allows the user to import the scrambling code as code set. The field SC requires
the scrambling code (0…8191), the new field CODESET allows the user to put the code set
(0…511) into the table.

4 3GPP2 Mobiles
4.1 NQA Sate View
The NQA State View now supports also CDMA2000 mobiles. To do so, also the CDMA only
mobiles will now send the NQA data via the GSM data structure, so that the GSM branch will
be visible. The information element “Mode” of the branch RAT Info and the information
element “CS Phone Mode” of the branch Server Report are used.

11 Windows OS Settings for DQA

11.1 TCP Settings
There are some new settings which can be set.

Enable TCP Autotuning Diagnostic Tool:

When checked, the receive window autotuning feature is enabled. This is default for
Windows 7.
TCP Autotuning Level:
The default auto-tuning level is “normal”, and the possible settings for the above command
are:
disabled: uses a fixed value for the tcp receive window. Limits it to 64KB
(limited at 65535).
highlyrestricted: allows the receive window to grow beyond its default value, very
conservatively
restricted: somewhat restricted growth of the tcp receive window beyond its
default value
normal: default value, allows the receive window to grow to accommodate most
conditions
Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 29 of 39
New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

experimental: allows the receive window to grow to accommodate extreme scenarios

(not recommended, it can degrade performance in common scenarios,
only intended for research purposes. It enables RWIN values of over 16
MB).
Recommendation: normal (unless you’re experiencing problems).

QoS Reserved Bandwidth:

With Windows XP, network adapters have a “QoS Packet Scheduler” enabled by default,
which reserves 20% of bandwidth by default for QoS applications that request priority traffic.
This only has effect in the presence of running QoS applications that request priority traffic.
Recommended: 0 , possible values between 0 and 100, indicates the percentage value of
reserved bandwidth for QoS applications. Set to 0 to disable.
Note: This tweak applies only to Windows versions that have QoS Packet Scheduler enabled.
It will only have effect in the presence of running QoS Applications.
Enable Nagle Algorithm:
By default, “nagling” is enabled. Disabling ”nagling” allows for very small packets to be
transferred immediately without delay. Note that disabling Nagle’s algorithm is only
recommended for some games, and it may have negative impact on file transfers/throughput.
The default state (Nagling enabled) improves performance by allowing several small packets
to be combined together into a single, larger packet for more efficient transmission. While this
improves overall performance and reduces TCP/IP overhead, it may briefly delay
transmission of smaller packets. Keep in mind that disabling Nagle’s algorithm may have
some negative effect on file transfers, and can only help reduce delay in some games.
The above settings are only available for Windows 7.
Further settings for a selected network adapter must be set in the Advanced Settings of a DQA
Connect Job:

Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 30 of 39

New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

TCP max. Number of outstanding acknowledgements:

Specifies the number of ACKs that will be outstanding before the delayed ACK timer is
ignored. Microsoft does not recommend changing the default value 2 without careful study of
the environment.
TCP ACK Interval Timeout:
Specifies the time interval that defines the end of a segment stream. When this interval
elapses between the receipt of TCP segments, TCP considers the segment stream to be
complete, and it sends an ACK message to acknowledge the segment. Otherwise, TCP
acknowledges every other segment only. The default value is 200ms. This has only effect
when the nagle algorithm is enabled.

These settings are not available for NDIS connections.

11.2 Socket Settings

Default Receive Window:

The number of receive bytes that AFD (Microsoft Ancillary Function Driver) buffers on a
connection before imposing flow control.

Order-No. 1117.6885.04 page 31 of 39

New Features of ROMES 4.67 04/05/2012

Default Send Window:

The number of sent bytes that AFD buffers on a connection before imposing flow control.
A larger value of the above parameters gives slightly better performance at the expense of
increased resource utilization.

12 GPS Drivers
12.1 Synchronization of System Time
The validity of the received time is now checked before the system time is set.
ublox drivers take the time from the sentence TIMEUTC. The accuracy has to be at least 0.1
seconds before the system time will be updated.
NMEA drivers take the time from the RMC sentence. The data valid flag has to be set to ‘A’
before the system time will be updated.

The upper part of the dialog shows the grid of switches for the visibility of mobile
technologies like CDMA, GSM etc. and the lower part shows the switches for the indoor
features.
Besides the already known switches for layer visibility and underlay (etc.) visibility, which
were scattered across many different menus and configuration pages, some new switches have
been added:
- switches for the BTS symbol layers
- general switches for all features of technologies
- general switches for features (independent of technology)
- Indoor main switch
- Indoor hotspot switch
The configuration must be confirmed by pressing the OK (or Apply) button, or it can be
cancelled (reset to its previous state)
The Dialog itself is a windows control bar and can be opened by going to the button on the
left border of the view. Like the other control bars it can be docked and undocked or have
automatic open/close.
The configuration items so far have not been removed from the menus and technology
configuration pages and also the ALT+Control keyboard controls are unchanged and still
operating.

13.2 Force Indoor in GPS / Indoor combined Measurement
