Plummer Block

Aim- To make and assemble Plummer's Block

Software Aid- Autodesk Inventor

Theory-
In order to ensure effective sealing, plummer blocks are available with a variety
of special sealing options and end covers. Benefits include a facility for easy
mounting and dismounting of pre-assembled shafts.

Plummer block housings can be used with high-capacity spherical roller

bearings or self-aligning ball bearings. They are manufactured from high-
strength cast iron as standard but are also available in cast steel or spheroidal
graphite cast iron. The housings have a re-lubrication facility and can be used
with either oil or grease lubrication

Procedure-

A). Making Body or Casting

1. Make a rough sketch about the y axis.
2. Give the dimensions according to the given profile and mirror the
profile about y axis and exit the sketch.
3. Extrude the given profile in z direction by using the Extrude option.
4. Select the x z plane to sketch in
5. Make the top view profile in the extruded part and exit the sketch
6. Remove the extra material by using the Cut Extrude option.
7. Similarly remove the material onto the bottom side of the base.
8. Select the save option or press Ctrl+S and save the part.

B). Making Cap

Follow the same steps as that of Base for top and front profile.

C.) Making Nuts and Bolts

1. Open New Part
2. Sketch in x y plane, the front profile of the bolt and exit the sketch
3. Select the option Revolve Base and apply it on the bolt profile.
4. Save the Bolt Part. Open New Part
5. Select x z plane to sketch in and make the nut's profile and extrude it.
6. Similarly make another sized nut and save both parts separately.

D.)Making Lower and Upper Brass

1. Open New Part
2. Select x z plane to sketch in. Make inner profile of the upper brass and
extrude in negative y direction.
3. Select the same plane and make the outer profile and extrude to the
inner profile.
4. Mirror the entire entity along the x z plane.
5. Save the part.
6. Similarly make the lower brass but remove the material required to
make the snug. Save the Part.

E.) ASSEMBLY
1. Open Autodesk Inventor and open New Assembly.
2. Import all the saved parts for the assembly.
3. Give all the required constraints for the different parts and render the
drawings for the full assembly
4. Hence the Plummer Block is Assembled.
