First Seminar

Application of PEC Complaint and Design Analysis

The Seminar held at 24 of January 2018 in AVR( audio visual room), talks about the study of
electrical system design, installation and cost estimation for commercial and industrial establishments,
guided by the provisions of the Philippine Electrical Code(PEC) and other relevant laws and standard.
Since the objective of this seminars is to have an idea with regards to safe use of electricity to meet the
standard in a commercial and industrial building, same as the adequacy to ensure the safety of
electricity for the construction and installation. The first topic is all about the design requirement with
regards to Faulty wire. The first requirement is that the system is compatible to the operational
requirements and maintenance, then comply for the following criteria and also meet all specification,
requirement on a right way.

PEC covers the electric conductors including optical fiber cable and installed within or on, to or
from: Public and private buildings, Electrical generating plants, Temporary and permanent substations,
Industrial plants, Transformer stations, Railway switchyards, Yards, carnival, parking, etc.. Watercraft,
Dockyards, Airfields, Quarries and mines, Mobile homes, travel trailers and recreational vehicles,
Offshore facilities and Other premises which requires electrical installation except to those which are
done in; a) Aircraft b) motor vehicles c) railway rolling stocks.

First Seminar

Permit Design Inspection

Permit design Inspection is the second session held at AVR ( audio visual room) in the same day.
A permit is required before undertaking any electrical installation. An inspection is also required after
which certificate of electrical inspection (CEI) is issued by the authority. A permit is not required for the
installation of electrical portable equipment rated not more than 1,200 VA and reconnection of
disconnected service due to non-payment of electric bill or change of occupants for a period of one
year.

But before a permit is approved the design is done in accordance with the P.E.C. and all
electrical works shall comply with the provisions of all authorities having juris- diction on the use of
electrical power. A Professional Electrical Engineer is liable to check Design and analyse base on the
standard like a PEE read about LEGEND AND SYMBOLS use in the design, then the LOCATION PLAN If the
Location or site plan with proposed structures and owner’s land drawn to appropriate metric scale shall
show Bordering areas showing public or well known streets. Location of service drop, service equipment
and nearest pole of the utility company furnishing electrical energy. Clearance of the path or run of
service drops and service structure wires to adjacent existing or proposed structures and also RISER
DIAGRAM and all about proposed design.

Second Seminar

Substation Operation

This Seminars entitled Substation operation talks about how the substation work and distribute
the electricity to different areas. A substation can be categorized into two types , Distribution Substation
and Transmission Distribution. But Engr. Herson S. Manimtim focus only on Distribution substation since
he is the one of the Engr. In Batelec 2And also he says, a cooperative substation like batelec 2 is non
profitable because according to him the losses that the batelec 2 manage below the a set range will
return to the employee while the losses beyond the set range will be the losses of the cooperative and
will get to the consumer bill in the way of increasing the pesos per kwh power consumption. In that
sense I think anyone who get their job in batelec have an average salary.

In distribution substation the following are the substation equipment: Air break switch , power
fuse, current Transformer, potential Transformer, current relay, power transformer, power circuit
requirements, power transformer, switch gear, recloser, capacitor Automatic VR Station service and
form , Charger and Battery and lighting Arrester / surge arrester . A substation procedure also discuss in
the seminar. One of the example is during normal condition – the substation is energize, same as during
fault condition – this are fault in the feeder or fault on the load side and the last one is during closed
fault condition – closing the feeder.

Fundamentals on power System Three phase Distribution System

In the second session of the seminar in the 31st of January 2018 at AVR ( Audio Visual Room)
Engr. Arvin Barbosa discuss the importance of Power System Analysis in the field of Engr. If your job
choice is in the distribution company like batelec 2. The topic or outline of the seminar with Engr.
Barbosa starts in Philippine Power Industry which is Load flow is important followed the power system
representation discuss the importance of electrical symbols and calculation of per unit also as an engr.
An advantage to the other if we already know how to read a plan using electrical symbols.

We already know in three phase balanced all 3 phase transformer are balanced same as the load
together voltage are 3 phase. But in practical there are no balanced load and used symmetrical balanced
computation in distribution like lines are transposed, three phase banks are not identical loads are not
balanced , presence of three phase and single phase lines and also faults. Engr. Barbosa also discuss or
show a brief review of the most common formula should be use when an engr. Is in the field of
distribution system same as the Load Flow. He share to us the procedure of load flow analysis .

Electrical and Fire Safety

Last February 7, 2018, Engr. Ador M. Guerrero share his knowledge about Electrical safety same as the
fire safety at AVR ( Audio visual Room). According to him the root of fire is faulty electrical wiring. And
the responsible for that is the Electrical Engr. But they don’t know the reason why fire is present in most
squatters area. And the most common reason is the fault in the junction box. So extension chord is not
advisable but we have no choice so proper tie of the wires is needed inside the junction box.

A few minutes later he also discuss the safety codes standards and regulation. He also define the
differences of high voltage and low voltage. Power is the reason why a person died if it is directly
heated. He also told us the effect of electric shock, the first one is burns , involuntary grip and verticular
fibrillation. Since our body is about 500 to 1000 ohms resistance, we feel pain when the current directly
heated in our body about 8-15mA. Pain loss of muscular control in 15 – 20mA, Intense pain And
paralysis of breathing in muscles in 20-100mA, death in 100-200mA, and health movement stops in
200mA and above. He also discuss the electric shock prevention. First thing first is grounding system,
double insulating materials Appropriate disconnect means, PPE, Training of personnel also the Job
hazard analysis. And the most important in the seminar discussion is the rules when we are working in a
live electricity we need to consider the safety of the others.

Third Seminar

Refining and Petrochemical Industry with instrumentation and Analyzer Foundation

The second session of the seminar talks about basic knowledge about instrumentation and control. In
this session the best example of control system is a human circulatory system because all we have here
is sensing controlling and etc. Teofilo D. De sagun is the one of the speaker during that time . It is hard to
connect to his discussion because that topic is not the one that I don’t want to know when it comes to
computer base. He also explained the instrumentation symbol and its function specially in a generation
plant.. Using this symbol and tag number we will determine the location of a certain instrument in the
field.

Since Sir Teofilo D. De sagun is currently working in JJ Summit he share his knowledge about
petrochemical industry and refining industry. According to him JJ summit is a petrochemical industry he
also discuss the process of daily production n JJ summit from purification to logistics. And during the
process the chemicals like C2, C3, and C6 is used to process and separate the C0, CO2 sulfur and water.
And the equipment must comply with the hazardous and requirements are exploision-proof enclosure,
nonincendive device, purge pressurized enclosure.

Fourth Seminar

Personality Development

Last February 14, the speaker from the main campus 1 is late of about an hour, but it is alright for us
because the topic she discuss is all about the personality development. How to look good and wear a
formal attire depends on the occasions we present. Though this seminar we attended is not related in
our program but it give as additional knowledge on what we will wear when we are searching for a job
in the future. Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling
and behaving. The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is understanding individual
differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is
understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole.

This seminar will help my personality to become confident without doubt to wear any clothes and show
the personality what I have to my surrounding’s. Associate prof. Elenor E. Sepillo also told us that
Socialization is important in the process of personality formation. Human personality is the result of our
genes; however the socialization process can mould it in a particular direction that is desirable. By
encouraging specific beliefs and attitudes as well as selectively providing experiences, socializing reaches
its goal post. This makes all the difference between the common personality types in one society in
comparison to another. When you socialize with people, you gain abundant insight into the working of
the world. You will be able to predict people’s mood, their nature after having socialized with them.

Socialized lets you adapt to a certain environment or crowd. It helps you to adjust and feel at ease.

Fourth Seminar

Emotional Intelligence

Last February 14 our seminar is conducted at Audio visual room were the guest speaker is from the main
campus 1. The topic she discuss is all about emotional intelligence of a person, how individuals will
recognize their own emotions and those of others, discern between different feelings and label them
appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and manage and/or adjust
emotions to adapt to environments or achieve one's goal. Though the topic is out of the program or field
we choose but the essence is as a person we have to developed our emotional intelligence as we face a
problem to handle a difficult situation.

Maa’m chuchu.. is very funny woman and that person shows that she had a hard problem before and
she hide it by means of her action. A happy person always have a hard problem but he/she hide it by
making laugh or doing crazy and show to others that the problem he/she facing is nothing to his/her but
the real thing is he/she only working on it.
The four primary components of emotional intelligence are self-awareness, self-management, social
awareness and relationship management. She said if we have this four components we can handle hard
situation and create a good teamwork.
