Grade level, Subject(s) Grade 7-12, English

Description This book allows for new teachers, as well as old teachers to have
new material to rely on and take new activities from. This book
“eliminates the need for weekly lesson planning” (1). Less time on
lesson planning allows for more time to focus on the students and
their gradual improvements with understanding the English
language. This book guides the teacher’s role and communication
in an ESL classroom. The activities in this book are more specific
than most classroom guidelines for teacher; for example, this
book as over 13 weeks of lessons, each being a 1 ½ -2 hours.
With this book students “utilize a functional approach to language
with an emphasis on simulating real-life language situations” (2).
Portions of this book has a lot of practice activities to rehearse
what they have learned in the lesson. This book has in-depth
lessons for teachers that involves supportive pictures, speaking,
listening, and grammar practice activities for students.
In addition, this book offers a section called “Full Color Photos,”
where students can independently look at photos in colour that
will help their understanding on the English words that they are
being taught; therefore, this book can be used as part of the
classroom library. Having this book accessible to the students will
unsure the students’ clear comprehension.

Evaluation Since the book emphasises on simulating real-life language

situations; students learn a lot of useful speaking and
communicating skills that they will need in life. This book meets
the goals of the grade 9-12 curriculum with ensuring the student is
hitting the basic language, but as well as developing more
complex language with time. The book is very easy to understand,
access, and incorporate within in the classroom. The material is
published by ICG Testing with 25 years of research which makes

Grade level, Subject(s) Grade K-12, English

Description This book includes a variety of practical strategies to meet the

standards and curriculum of each grade level. Within the book,
the practical strategies have been tested and revised to give the
teacher the best information and suggestions out there. The
strategies within in the book shows how to plan and use the
strategy, as well as how to adapt and modify it to fit your own
class.
The book also includes: new strategies to incorporate language
and literacy development in the classroom, expand emphasis on
the use of technology and scaffold leaning for ELL/ESL, and
assessment strategies.
At the very front of the book there is an alphabetical list of
strategies for teachers to choose from with the page number and
chapter recorded. Strategies vary from learning centers, to read-
alouds, and to vocabulary role-play where the student is
constantly engaged. This book also comes with a DVD that
incorporates more examples of strategies and what they should
look like within the classroom.

Evaluation Since this book focuses on the English curriculum, the whole
class will benefit from new and different strategies for differential
learners. Having a book that has a variety of strategies allows for
the teacher to choose the ones they like and would like to
incorporate in their classroom. This book meets the goals and
curriculum of grades 9-12, especially with the activities. As the
student partakes in the activities, the teacher can witness the
student analyzing and working on their cognitive skills. This book
is very simplistic and straightforward for teachers to use and a
reliable source because Pearson Press published it. There are

Grade level, Subject(s) K-12, Math, History, English, Geography, Art, (All subjects)

Description This book invites students to “experience, taste, and embrace the
daily lives of children from the far corners of the earth” (1). This
book focuses on the difference and similarities between students
which helps to promote inclusion and team building. This book
lets students grow and celebrate their own heritage and where
they have come from through storytelling, cooking, crafts, and
dance.
This book works in a chronically way where the first pages gives
the teacher ideas of “getting to know your students” and
eventually gets into more complex material about each person’s
background. This book discusses some cultural traditions that
many ESL and ELL may celebrate or know of.
The book’s focus is about sharing, and sharing the student’s own
experience with others; many students may find themselves
saying “We do that too in my family,” which helps to promote
similarities within the classroom and togetherness.
This book has 365 different activities to help get the students
sharing their own experience and traditions. Therefore, this book
can be a part of the classroom library in case one students wants
to read more about another culture. This book has many visuals
and demonstrations that allows for the student to follow along and
help promote discussion among peers.

Evaluation Since the books focuses on cultures and traditions around the
world, the whole class can connect and be a part of the learning
experience. Each student could discuss their own background
and as well as learn other student’s background and what
happens within the religion they maybe apart of. This book meets
the goal of multicultural inclusion, and hits every subject within
school. It supports every strand of literacy: communication,
listening, reading, and comprehension. This book is very easy to
read and accessible to all students. This book is a reliable source
because it was published by Williamson Publishing Co, who is

Grade level, Subject(s) 7-12, Art, English, and History

Description This book is a brilliant introduction to art and art history. This book
allows for the learner to understand the artist’s work and then can
recreate it. The book is full of pictures and illustrations to help
simplify the artwork, yet emphasize how magnificent the
masterpiece is. This book brings in very famous artists such as
Vincent van Gogh and Edgar Degas, as well as their styles to
show the students the fun they can have with creation and
imagination.
The book gives a variety of art styles: painting with pastels,
creating a collage, paint to music, and so on. These different type
of art techniques allows for the student to learn the history of art,
but can also bring in their own heritage and ideas. When the
students create a collage, for example, they can bring in pictures
of what describes themselves and lead into a class discussion. Art
is a great way for class inclusion and to see the difference in
imagination.
Lastly, this book could be used by the teacher for ideas of
different type of artwork that the students can partake in, but can
also be a part of the classroom library. This book is basically all
pictures so it makes it very easy for the learner to understand the
material and make crafts that the book suggests.

Evaluation The book has an abundance of different artists that will allow for
the class to understand the art history side; however, the book
also provides activities which will help the learner retain the
information. Letting the students design their own craft with little
guidance allows for the class to view other peer’s imagination and
see the diversity within the pictures. The art that will be done by
the students will meet the goal of extracting meaning from
different media texts. My Art Book is accessible and easy for ELL
and ESL to use and follow along, also the book is a creditable
source because it was published by DK publishing which is a well-
known publisher. More information at:
