SPECIAL ISSUE ON:
Biometrics as-a-Service: Challenges and
future perspectives

While local authentication through biometrics has established its legacy, Biometrics as-a-service (BaaS) is an emerging
topic related to specific applications having complex protocols for human identification over the network. To obtain the
combined benefit of cloud computing and biometric security, BaaS is increasingly being adopted by organizations for
enrolling employees and customers over the network, thereby achieving streamlined customer service, and protecting
against fraudulent and malicious users. In this scenario, third party licensed biometrics engines can be integrated with
cloud resources and APIs installed on PCs, tablets or mobile phones.

This special issue will present some of the most advanced research and latest findings on Biometrics as-a-Service (BaaS).
