The BlueMotion offers impressive environmental credentials by intelligently
refining existing technology. Dynamic lines reduce the vehicle’s air resistance and,
combined with engineering refinements, rear boot spoiler on Saloon models,
lowered suspension and battery regeneration (recuperation – energy recovery
during braking) help produce exceptional economy. A Start/Stop function
automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is stationary, in neutral and the
clutch released and informs you by displaying a symbol on the multifunction
computer, then cleverly restarts it when you depress the clutch to select first gear.
The result is improved fuel savings and reduced emissions.

01 Driver fatigue is a major cause of road accidents, accounting for
up to 20% of serious accidents on monotonous roads, such as motorways,
in Great Britain. Fatigue related crashes are often more severe than others
03
because the driver’s reaction times are delayed or they have failed to make
any manoeuvres to avoid a crash. With these facts in mind, Volkswagen
has developed the Driver Alert system which gives an early warning
of when you need to take a break on long and tiring journeys, making
motorway driving safer. The system works by monitoring driver behaviour
closely, noting any erratic steering wheel movements and lane deviations.
If the system detects an erratic or unusual driving pattern, it will alert you
with a visual display on the dashboard and an audible warning sound,
and if you haven’t taken a break within 15 minutes, it will repeat the
warnings. The Driver Alert system is just one of a number of Volkswagen’s
innovative driver assistance systems, designed to make driving easier,
more comfortable and, above all, safer. Standard on Executive, Executive
Style and Alltrack models. Optional on all other models as part of cruise
control or as part of Automatic Cruise Control (ACC) on S models.
02 The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) recognises critical driving
situations and reacts in milliseconds by targeting brake and management
systems, controlling the speed of individual wheels and helping to bring the
vehicle under control. As a result the vehicle achieves maximum directional
stability. Standard on all models.

03 Optional Side scan makes motorway driving safer by helping to
prevent accidents when you want to change lanes. The radar system
monitors the areas to the left and right of the car and up to 50 metres
behind it, and should it detect a potentially hazardous situation, it warns
you by means of flashing warning lights in the door mirror housing.
Optional on all models. Side scan must be ordered in conjunction with
Convenience pack on S and BlueMotion models.

04 Lane Assist is a camera controlled lane tracking aid that countersteers your vehicle if it drifts from
your chosen lane and also gives an audible warning should you remove your hands from the steering wheel.
Optional on all models. Lane Assist also includes Traffic Sign Recognition† when ordered in
conjunction with the RNS 315 navigation/DAB radio or RNS 510 DVD navigation/DAB radio systems.
Lane Assist must be ordered in conjunction with Convenience pack on S and BlueMotion models. Lane Assist
cannot be ordered in conjunction with heated windscreen.

06 The standard airbag system consists of driver’s and front passenger’s airbags with front passenger’s airbag
deactivation switch, curtain airbags for front and rear occupants, and seat side impact airbags in the front. Together
with seat belts, airbags reduce the risk of serious head and chest injuries: as soon as the crash sensors register a
collision, a gas generator fills the airbags within 30 to 40 milliseconds. The activated airbags then cushion the head
and upper part of the body, distributing the impact of the collision over as wide an area as possible and ensuring
less forward movement of the neck, significantly reducing risk of whiplash and injury.
07 The 2.0 TDI 177 PS engines now feature XDS, an extension of the well-known Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
function. This is linked to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) hydraulics and works by applying pressure to the inner
front wheel during fast cornering to prevent wheel-spin. The one-sided, precise brake pressure helps to maximise
traction, reduce understeer and improve responses, thus making cornering even more sporty, safe and accurate.
Optional on all other engines except 1.4 TSI 122 PS and 1.6 TDI 105 PS engines.

established reputation with a range of highly innovative, technological advancements, designed to meet your every expectation, and make a real difference
in terms of quality, refinement and luxury. The latest TDI engines, for example, are equipped with common rail technology, ensuring high torque along with
low fuel consumption. TSI petrol engines follow the downsizing principle, using low capacity, highly sophisticated turbocharging and precise direct injection
to deliver maximum power and exceptional fuel economy. When utilised with BlueMotion Technologies such as the Start/Stop function, which momentarily
switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and in neutral and starts it again as you depress the clutch and battery regeneration, which recuperates
energy under braking and acceleration to boost the alternator – both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are further reduced dramatically.
01 TDI are three letters that have acquired legendary significance, symbolising high torque, low consumption and quiet performance. TDI diesel engines
utilise common rail technology and are fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which filters out exhaust elements that are harmful to the environment,
significantly reducing diesel emissions as a result.

the driver. If Front Assist detects you
are getting too close to the vehicle in
front, it will warn you in two stages:
visually and acoustically, and will
then automatically start braking, to
a standstill if necessary. Optional

enables you to enter your vehicle

longer a chore. Estate models

05 Volkswagen’s Park Assist system
has long made parallel parking
significantly easier. However, this
system combines conventional Park
Assist with the added functionality
of reverse parking into a space at
90° to the kerb. The driver activates
the system by pressing a button on
the centre console. Using ultrasonic
parking sensors, Park Assist will
detect a large enough parking space
for either reverse or parallel parking
and the assisted parking process can
begin. Having put the vehicle into
reverse, all the driver has to do is
operate the accelerator, clutch and
brake, while keeping a good lookout.

Three-year Warranty.
All Volkswagen passenger cars come with a three-year/60,000 miles warranty, which protects your car against
the failure of most technical and electrical components due to manufacturing defects. This comprises a two-year
manufacturer’s warranty with unlimited mileage plus a further one-year/60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) Retailer
Warranty*. Should the mileage exceed 60,000 miles within the first two years, the manufacturer’s two-year warranty will
still be valid. Full details of the three-year warranty are available from your authorised Volkswagen retailer or repairer.

Three-year Paint Warranty.

Service Intervals.
Volkswagen are pleased to offer you a choice on how your Passat is serviced.
The appropriate selection is entirely dependent on how the car is likely to be
driven and its general use. To help you identify which type of service would
be most suitable, please refer to the following guide.
The Fixed Service is recommended for vehicles that will cover less than
10,000 miles in 12 months and if the vehicle is likely to be used in the
following way:
• Predominantly urban driving, short journeys with frequent cold starts.
• Activities regularly producing high engine loading, e.g. frequent hill
climbs, driving with vehicle fully loaded and towing.

With the Flexible Service the vehicle can cover anywhere between 10,000†
and a maximum of 18,000† miles or 24 months (whichever is soonest) between
oil changes. Inspection service is typically in the third year of ownership and
thereafter every second year, for vehicles with an approximate annual mileage
of 10,000 miles.
† Please note that mileages are approximate as the service indicator
system uses kilometres as the distance measurement. Please consult your
