The learner is able to collect and organize data systematically and compute
accurately the measures of central tendency and apply these appropriately in data
analysis and interpretation in different fields.
Key Questions:
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
About the lesson: This is a lesson meant for teaching Mean, Median and Mode
given a set of data. This lesson also describes data using the mean, median and mode.
Problem solving involving Mean, Median and Mode also included.

Review
( Video Playback )
Class, what have you observed in the Sir, the video showed some
video? information’s about statistics.
Okay, very good. Another….. Sir, the video talks about the different
measures of central tendency of
ungrouped data.
Correct! Now, based on the Sir, I think our topic for this meeting is all
observations you’ve had, what do you about the different measures of central
Republic of the Philippines
Panikian National High School
Panikian , Carrascal, Surigao Del Sur
think is our topic for this meeting? tendency of ungrouped data namely: the
Mean, Median, and Mode.
Activity
The bar chart shows the number of
magazines borrowed from the library last
week.
Analysis
Okay class, what did you feel after Sir, I felt challenged and happy because
doing the activity? we answered all the questions in a given
time.
Well that’s great! How did you find the Sir, the problems were not that easy and
given problems? not that difficult.
So , what have you observed about Sir, I observed that the values of the
the values of the mean, the median Mean, median, and mode are also
and the mode? referred as AVERAGES.
Correct! How did you find MEAN? Sir, we find Mean by adding all the
number of magazines borrowed per day
last week then divides by the number of
days.
Correct! How about the middle “ Median”
number of borrowed magazines per
day last week when ordered from
least to greatest?
Correct! How did you find the Median? Sir, we find the median by simply
arranging the number of borrowed
magazines per day from least to greatest
then spot the middle number.
Excellent! And how about the number “Mode”
of borrowed magazines per day last
week that occurs most frequently?
Correct. How did you find the Mode? Sir, we find the Mode by simply counting
the number of borrowed magazines per
day last week who appears most
frequent.
Situational Analysis
Very good! Now, to check if indeed
you have understood the above ideas
on Mean, Median and Mode of
ungrouped data, let us analyze the
following situations.
Situation 1:
A group of students obtained the
following scores in a math quiz:
8, 7, 9, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3
Median is 7.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10
Mode is 8.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10
Abstraction / Generalization
Let’s have first the mean. Sir, Mean is the most commonly used
measure of central tendency. It is used
to describe a set of data where the
measure cluster or concentrate at a
point.
∑𝑥
X =
𝑁
Where, ∑𝑥 is the summation of x.
And N is the number of values of x.
Next we have is the Median. Sir, Median is the middle value or term in
a set of data arranged according to
size/magnitude (either increasing or
decreasing)
Correct! Example.
The library logbook shows that 58,
60, 54 ,35 and 97 books, respectively,
were borrowed from Monday to Friday
last week. Find the median.
Solution:
First, arrange the data in
increasing order.
35, 54, 58, 60, 97
Lastly, the mode of the ungrouped Sir, the Mode is the measure or value
data. which occurs most frequently in a set of
data. It is the value with the greatest
frequency.
Group Activity
The scores of 20 students in a Math quiz
are as follows:
25 33 35 45 34
26 29 35 38 40
45 38 28 29 25
39 32 37 47 45
Now class, what have you learned Sir, from the activity that we’ve had, I
from the activity? learned so many things. Specifically,
how to get the mean, median and mode
of the ungrouped data.
Very good! You were able to do a lot
of activities for Mean, Median and
Mode based from our discussion.
Application
If that is the case, can you cite
examples in real life setting where we
can state the importance of studying:
Mean Mean can be used to compute the
average of our grade in every level.
Median Median can be helpful in decision-
making, this where we can stay in the
middle so that we can weigh things over.
Evaluation
1. The weekly salaries in pesos of 6
workers of a construction firm are
2400, 2450, 2450, 2500, and 4200.
a. Compute the mean, median and
mode.
