Construction of Aqueduct in Harinagra Branch Canal at

Ch.17+988 Km of S14 Canal

Harinagara branch canal is off taking from 126 RD of CMC. The command area of this
branch canal is 6204 hectare. This branch serves irrigation facilities to Tetariya ,
Motipur , Sidhraha , Lakhantari , Jhodahat , Bharaha , Jhapa Baijanathpur , Katahari ,
Majhare and Bhathigachh VDC . Total length of this branch canal is 21.25 km. Upto
15+275 km , the canal is in developed condition and after that 21+250 km (tail) ,the
canal is in undeveloped condition . Most of the structures , between ch. 15+275 km to ch
21+250 km , in this branch canal is outdated seems to damage. The drainage conditions
also poor in this portion .For the better irrigation the remaining undeveloped canal
portion should be developed properly . The tail portion of this canal is suffered from
silting and unavailability of water.
During the flood of year 2059 the canal is damaged in several
locations, among these the pipe aqueduct of ch. 17+988 km, of S14 canal at
Bhathigachh VDC – 2 , is severely damaged and 953 ha. command area at D/S of
aqueduct of Bhathigachh VDC ward nos. 2, 7, 6 and 8 (Harinagara village) is affected for
irrigation facilities and service road is damaged at this location. The aqueduct is
damaged due to old age and concentrated flow of local drain at the location. The local
drain inlets in Jhingiya Khola which confluence point is 95 m L/S from the axis of
damaged pipe aqueduct .

For the facility of irrigation at D/S of ch. 17+988 km the construction of aqueduct is highly
necessary. This proposal is made for the construction of R.C.C. aqueduct at the location
and its estimated cost is NRs. 1,38,58,900.00 . The span of the aqueduct is 16 m and
the discharge of canal is 1.50 cumec and length of canal at D/S of aqueduct is 3.25 km .
