Time Frame: _October 2, 2015_

I. Objectives: I can…

A. Identify and describe polygons by their sides and angles.

B. Solve problems involving sides and angles of a regular polygon.

C. Explain to the class the relationship of the number of sides of a regular polygon to its angles.

II. Subject Matter: POLYGONS

A. Topic: Solve problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.

B. Reference: http://www.mathopenref.com/tocs/polygontoc.html

C. Materials: Whyteboard marker, PowerPoint Presentation

III. Expected Learning Outcomes:

A. Essential Understanding: The students will understand the importance of the concept of the sides and
angles of a polygon in real life situation. Through polygon we can measure specific things, for example, if
you were a builder, you would measure material, bricks, and much more.

B. Essential Question/s:
b.1. In what real life situations would it be necessary to determine sides and angles of a polygon?

IV. Instructional Procedures:

A. Introduction(Acquisition)

Activity 1. Video Presentation

The teacher will show video presentation in introduction to the definition of polygon.

Interaction(Understanding/Making Meaning)

Activity 2. Discussion
The teacher will be discussing the process of solving the sides and angles of a polygon and present
some examples.

Activity 3.Individual Activity

Each student will pick a polygon inside the paper bag; they will answer questions given by the
teacher based on the polygon that they have picked.

Activity 4. Board Work

The teacher will pick three students to show and explain their answer to the class.

Activity 5. Paper work

The students will have their individual paperwork.

C. Integration(Transfer Goal)

Activity 1.
GOAL Design a blueprint of a house.

ROLE You are an Architect.

AUDIENCE Your client is the owner of the house.

SITUATION Your client wants you to make a blueprint of his house. He wants you to
make a unique design of his house using different kinds of a polygon.

PRODUCT You need to create a blueprint that is unique and attractive in order to meet
the standard of your client.

STANDARD Your blueprint should contain accurate information and suitable to the
budget of your client.
Activity 2.
D. Values Integrated
After discussing the sides and angles of polygon we now understand how important it is. Measuring
the angles of a polygon can be used in a real-life situation such as in constructing a building, cars, and
much more. One can almost not live without encountering angles in real life. They are everywhere.
Without the realization and proper usage of angles, this world would be rather primitive.

V. Assessment Tool: Paper-pencil tools

Answer the following questions:

1. Find the measure of each interior angle of a polygon with 9 sides.

2. Find the measure of each exterior angle of a regular decagon.
3. How many sides are there in a regular polygon if each interior angle measures 165 0?
4. Is it possible to have a regular polygon with an exterior angle equal to 400 ?
VI. Enrichment/Assignment: Paper-pencil tools
Answer the following questions:

1. The measures of the interior angles of a convex quadrilateral are xο, 2xo, 4xo, and 5xo. What is the measure of
the largest interior angle?
2. Find the measure of and interior and exterior angle of a regular hexagon.
3. Find the measure of and interior and exterior angle of a regular 20-gon.
4. A regular polygon has an angle measure of 108 ̊ how many sides does the polygon have?
