Instructions:
1. Observe proper formatting of the report.
2. Discuss all relevant points/concepts/logical statements/decisions in the analytical procedure.
3. Relevant tabulations and diagrams must be presented.
4. Submit the report on or before the set deadline stated below.

Due Date: February 13, 2018 (Tuesday)

Part 1
A 400 x 500 mm column section shown below is reinforced with 12-25 mm Ø longitudinal bars.
Construct the confined concrete stress-strain interaction diagram using Mander confined concrete
model (Mander et al., 1988).

REINFORCEMENT DETAIL

12-25 mm Ø LONGTIDINAL BARS

12 mm Ø TRANSVERSE REIFORCEMENT SPACED @ 100 mm

500 mm MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

fc’ = 42 MPa
fy = 420 MPa
fyt = 420 MPa

Part 2
The column section shown above is composed of two concrete sections, ie., a confined concrete
core and an unconfined cover concrete. Plot the uniaxial P − M and φ P − φ M diagrams about x and y
axes using (a) unconfined and (b) confined concrete models for the concrete core. Indicate all
relevant points of the diagrams. Use Hognestad concrete model (1951) to generate the unconfined
concrete stress-strain curve, Mander confined concrete model (1988) to generate the confined
concrete stress-strain curve, and Priestley et al. model (1996) to generate stress-strain curve for
Grade 60 (420 MPa) deformed bars.
