GOVERNMENT REGULATION: Engine fluids (oil, fuel, and coolant) may be a hazard to human
health and the environment. Handle all fluids and other contaminated materials (e.g. filters, rags)
in accordance with applicable regulations. Recycle or dispose of engine fluids, filters, and other
contaminated materials according to applicable regulations.

WARNING: To prevent personal injury and / or death, read all safety instructions in the “Safety
Information” section of the Engine Service Manual or Engine Diagnostic Manual.

WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, park vehicle on a hard, flat
surface, turn engine off, set parking brake, and install wheel chocks to prevent vehicle from moving in
either direction.

WARNING: To prevent personal injury and / or death, make sure the engine has cooled before
removing components.

WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and /or death, remove ground cable from
negative terminal of main battery before disconnecting or connecting electrical components. Always
connect ground cable last.

WARNING: To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye protection when
performing vehicle maintenance.

WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, if the vehicle must be
raised, do not work under the vehicle supported only by jacks. Jacks can slip or fall over.

WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, allow heated materials to
cool prior to handling.

WARNING: To prevent personal injury or death, avoid contact with Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) /
urea. Do not get DEF in eyes. In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with large amounts of
water for a minimum of 15 minutes. DEF contains urea. Do not swallow. If DEF is ingested, contact a
physician immediately. Reference the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for additional information.

WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, seek service immediately
if Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) contamination or Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system fault is
detected. Failure to resolve the problems may result in a loss of engine power and vehicle speed, and
may cause an accident.

CAUTION: To prevent property / component damage, do not use open flames to apply heat to shrink
wrap.

CAUTION: To prevent property / component damage, do not allow shrink wrap debris to fall inside
the wrapped sensor.

CAUTION: To prevent property damage, proper care should be taken when handling, dispensing,
or transporting Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), as it is corrosive to some metals and materials.

CAUTION: To prevent property damage, ensure coolant does not contaminate DEF tank.

CAUTION: To prevent property / component damage, do not cut secondary hole above the Urea
Quality Sensor (UQS). Hole must be offset to prevent damage to UQS.

Procedure
UQS Removal
1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
