BOOK REVIEW CONTEST


The Book Club is organizing a book review contest for all students.

The objectives of the contest are:

 To enable students to improve their writing skills.


 To help students gain more understanding while reading books.
 To improve the level of thinking skills among students.
The details are as follows:
Date : 20 November 2017
Time : 4.30 pm to 6.30pm
Venue : Library
 All participants need to go through a selection round to participate in the
contest.
 Only 8 finalists will be selected to participate in the final round, which will be
announced later.
 Participants will be judged on the review’s originality, accuracy,
understanding and interesting points.
 Participants can make a review on a fiction or non-fiction book.
 Those who are interested to join the contest must fill in an entry form, which
can be obtained from the secretary of Book Club.
 The deadline for submission is 1st November. Late entries will not be
entertained.

Take this opportunity to train yourself reading and reviewing your favourite book and let
the others know how good it is! Early birds will receive a mysterious gift!

 Winner: RM350 in cash, a trophy and a certificate.


 Runner-up: RM200 in cash, a trophy and a certificate.
 All finalists will receive a hamper worth RM50.

Read the text below.

There were once two friends who were walking in a great desert. At one point in the
journey, agitated by the constant thirst and punishing heat, their tempers became short. Before
long, they got into an argument and one friend slapped the other in the face.
The one who was slapped was hurt but without saying anything, he took a stick and wrote in
the desert sand, “Today my friend slapped me in the face”.
The duo kept walking until they came upon an oasis where there was a beautiful lake
with clear, cool water for swimming. It was a welcome sight and the two friends jumped right
in. halfway through, the one that had been slapped got his leg stuck between some rocks and
started drowning. His friend quickly swam to him and pulled him to safety.
After he had recovered, he found a slab of rock and with the sharp end of another,
carved on to the stone. “Today my friend saved my life”. Curious, his friend asked, “Brother,
after I hurt you, you wrote in the sand but now that I have saved you, you write on a stone,
why?” The other replied, “When someone hurts you, we should write it in sand so that the
winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But if someone does something good for us, we must
engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”
