THE LICENSE KEY CONFIGURATOR (LKC) TOOL QUICK

REFERENCE GUIDE
The LKC quick reference guide is provided to support partners configuring SPA Demonstration / Development
(Demo/Dev) user licenses. Demo/Dev user licenses are provided to Microsoft Dynamics SPA and Sales Affiliate
partners. Microsoft does not charge for Demo/Dev user licenses; these licenses are provided free of charge under
the Not for Resale Licensing Program (NFR). Demo/Dev licenses are provided for customer demonstration,
development and testing purposes only and cannot be used for internal use purposes, in any form of live,
production environment or be transferred to customers.

The Software licensing benefits provided by the Microsoft Dynamics SPA and Sales Affiliate programs are
specifically for partners to learn about Microsoft software and services, develop and support solutions on
Microsoft platforms, and promote and sell our latest Microsoft software and services.

Demo/Dev Entitlement
SPA Partners

Partners with a current SPA Agreement are entitled to download a total of 5 NFR Demo/Dev server licenses that
each cover up to 20 Demo/Dev full user licenses for each ERP software product the SPA partner is licensed to sell
as indicated on the SPA profile form. The only exception to this entitlement rule applies to Microsoft Dynamics
AX 2009 and AX 2012 where the entitlement is for each license is 25 Demo/Dev full user licenses. Partners should
delete Demo/Dev license configurations in the LKC tool that are no longer required to ensure that you do not
have more than 5 server/user license configurations at any one time.

Demo/Dev license configurations should only be used to support current and proposed end customer sales.
Additional limited license entitlements may be granted on a product by product basis.

Sales Affiliates Partners

Sales Affiliate partners are entitled to download a total of 5 NFR Demo/Dev server licenses. Each server license
can be used with 5 Demo/Dev full user licenses. Server licenses can only be downloaded for products that their
Master VAR is entitled to sell under their SPA. Additional limited license entitlements may be granted on a
product by product basis. Partners should delete Demo/Dev license configurations in the LKC tool that are no
longer required to ensure that you do not have more than 5 server/user license configurations at any one time.

Demo/Dev license configurations should only be used to support current and proposed end customer sales.
Additional limited license entitlements may be granted on a product by product basis.

Important Sales Affiliate Entitlement Notice

Sales Affiliates use the same Demo/Dev license configuration template as SPA partners. The template indicates
that the user may download up to 20 Demo/Dev user licenses (25 for Dynamics AX); this entitlement is only
applicable for SPA partners. Sales Affiliate partners may not download any more than their 5 user license
entitlement unless Microsoft has formally approved an exception.
Please note that exceptions are only granted to Sales Affiliates who were former SPA partners and who lost their
SPA partner status after 1st October 2011. Partners who meet the exception criteria should submit a request to
their Microsoft Regional Operations Centre.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 - 2013 180 Day Expiration Demo/Dev User
Licenses

New Demo/Dev templates have been added for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 and 2013. These templates will be
used to configure user licenses that will automatically expire 180 days after activation. (See Appendix A for
template detail). The 180 Day expiration license templates can be used to configure a maximum of 10 full license
users and would ideally be used when working with a Non-SPA Partner or Company that you do not have a long
term working relationship with and/or when a Demo/Dev licence is only required for a set period to demonstrate
the product features.

Demo/Dev User License Expiry

With the exception of 180 Day Expiration user licenses, Demo/Dev user license expiry dates will coincide with the
expiry date of the SPA or Sales Affiliate Agreement. Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Partners are only
entitled to use Dynamics Demo/Dev licenses while their SPA or Sales Affiliate agreement is active.
HOW TO PROCESS A NEW DEMO/DEV USER LICENSE IN THE LKC
TOOL
1. In order to access the LKC tool you will need to set your access rights to “Full” in the License Key
Configurator Access drop down box on the “Add Professional” link on VOICE. Your company’s
Administrator can do this for you also.

2. You can now log into the LKC tool under the “Developer Tools” link on the VOICE homepage.
VOICE -> Developer Tools -> License Key Configuration
3. Choose Program type “Demonstration and Development.” As a new user license is being created in
this case, click “Create New Configuration.”

4. Create the License Key Configuration by completing the fields that are presented to you. A list of these
fields and the relevant descriptions can be found in the appendix to this document Appendix A). Click
on “Select Modules” when the Configuration Information is completed.

5. Review the License Module listing information displayed when the Select Modules. Sales Affiliates
whose entitlement is 5 Demo/Dev user licenses per ERP product that their Master VAR is entitled to sell
are reminded that they must adjust the default user entitlement which will default to the maximum user
limit when the module is selected.

Module Configuration Notes (see screen shot on the following page):

i. If no changes are required choose “Select All” modules.

ii. The user option is pre-selected and cannot be removed. The only changes available are to the
actual user count.
iii. By default, the “Select All” function will pre-populate the User Limit with the maximum user
licenses permitted as shown in the diagram below.
6. To select individual modules, click the relevant check boxes. You can update user counts by selecting the
module and adjusting the User Limit column and click “Save” at the end of this page. Sales Affiliates whose
entitlement is 5 Demo/Dev user licenses per ERP product that their Master VAR is entitled to sell are
reminded that they must adjust the default user entitlement.

The license keys will now be generated on the selections you have made.

7. The screen shot below shows the completed License Key configuration. If the license is for Microsoft
Dynamics AX or Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the recipient will also need to download the Current
License/Registration Key license file. This file is quite separate from the regular product license keys and will
need to be uploaded as part of the standard licensing set-up for Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft
Dynamics AX. Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics SL require a series of numbers/letters to be
entered into the system. These license keys will be provided by the LKC tool.
Note: Use of the ISV Insert Rights Option

ISVs can download their Demo/Dev license with or without insert permissions for objects in their
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Registered Solution ranges. Partners wishing to develop a solution using their
own range should ensure that the ISV Insert Rights options is selected for their range to be enable them
to undertake the solution development work. ISV Insert Rights is only applicable for Dynamics NAV 2009
and 2013 user licenses. This option generally applies only to Demo/Dev licenses that are to be used for
development purposes rather than for demonstration purposes. If the Demo/Dev License Key
configuration is for demonstration purposes only select “No”. This is the default option.

ISVs who wish to insert permissions in their license should select “Yes” for the “ISV Insert Rights” option.
Selecting “Yes” allows data to be inserted into a table (as opposed to only Read, Modify, Delete, or
Execute). For Demo/Dev license grants, the ISV Insert Rights configuration option controls the Insert
Rights that are added to the licenses for the Owned Ranges and Granted Access ranges for a particular
partner.
