ABSTRACT: In this paper, the effective utilization of organic fibres (jute), industrial waste (cinders)

with Starch admixture (corn starch) in the composites of cement is to be studied in terms of
compressive strength and durability. Starch admixture is replaced with the mineral admixture which
according to recent studies increases density of concrete up to 1% of its usage by weight of cement.
There are some benefits of using chemical admixtures in concrete, it has disadvantage such as
environmental impact. Environmental pollution can occur when chemical admixtures are in contact
with environment, when storing concrete granulate containing admixtures and when concrete
granulate is used in construction. As the concrete admixtures are very readily soluble in water, they
create leaching problem. Hence there is need to find organic admixtures that improve properties of
concrete. Cinder sand is replaced by river sand by 25% its weight. From recent studies it is made
clear that about 30% replacement of cinders to sand has very less impact on strength, which reduces
the dead load of concrete.

AIM OF PRESENT INVESTIGATION: OBJECTIVES:

1. Determination of compressive strength of concrete for 28days curing period and
56days (i.e., 28days for curing and other 28 days exposed to atmosphere).
2. Determination of porosity and water absorption.
3. Determination of strength after heating and cooling.
4. Determination of strength after alternate wetting and drying.
5. Permeability test (optional)
6. Acid (HCL) attack test
7. sulphate attack test
8. Alkali attack test
CHARACTERIZATION OF MATERIALS

3. COARSE AGGREGATE: CINDERS 25% & GRAVELS 75%
4. CORN STARCH: 1% by weight of cement
5. JUTE FIBRES: 1% by weight of cement

This project is based on these recent investigations:
1. Project No: JMDC/JTM/MM-IV/7.1/2008, Dated: 31.3.2008 by MIT; which present the
investigation on jute reinforced concrete and concludes as 1% by wt. of cement has
highest strength attainment.
2. ISSN: 2319-5991, vol.5, no.3, august 2016, IJERST; which gives conclusions as addition of
1% of corn starch increases it density and compressive strength.
3. e-ISSN: 2278-067X, p-ISSN: 2278-800X, www.ijerd.com Volume 11, Issue 07 (July 2015),
PP.50-59, IJERD; which concludes by 40% of replacement of course aggregate reaches the
control strength.
