HPHT Exploration well’s, Offset Data Analysis

1. Offset well data & design analysis.

1. Goals

1.1 Goals & objectives.

 Recognised offset HPHT drilling hazards and risks.
 Analyse problems and risks experienced and identify opportunities to mitigate and prevent these.
 Measure and evaluate offset data in order to reduce and eliminate operational loss on Culzean.
 Use the data to enable a more robust drilling operational and geological program.
 Ensure key contingencies are planned engineered prior to operational execution.
 Determine key metrics to be managed during well implementation.

1.2 Well data & Design Goals:

Other design challenges:

 Each section planned for 1 bit run per hole section..
 Cement tops to be brought into the last casing string to seal off annular gas pressure while the well is on production.
 Beat best in class footage per day and total well duration (>250ft/day 65days duration spud to TD.)
 Optimise well costs vs. P50 AFE.
 Minimise down-hole equipment failures and associated drilling problems that result
 No surface equipment failure
 Minimise other operational performance and process loss.
 Deliver an MPD solution that works.

2.1 Offset Data Inventory

Table 1; Offset data table inventory

Well Name / Operator Year Data Comments

Number Drilled Analysis
attached
22_25a-1 1 1986 Yes 1st well on structure. Drilled with the semi-submersible Sea Explorer. Good
offset well with all the classic HPHT drilling difficulties experience that can be
Culzean learned from. 173days until well abandoned.

30/1a-6 1 2005 Yes Similar well stratigraphically and more recent with all typical HPHT swabbing,
kick and wellbore breathing problems occurring. 109days on well.
Jackdaw

22/30a-2 1 1988 Yes 1st HPHT well on structure drilled to TD of 15,900ft on day 47 (exceptional
performance indeed?).
Heron
Logged, liner run, well tested then abandoned. Total time 139days. Key
lessons to be learned for future project here?

22/30a-6 1 1989 Yes 1st Appraisal well on structure, drilled from 25Nov to a TD of 16,744ft, well
suspended, 28th April. Well suspended after 167days. Key lessons to be
Heron learned in the context when appraising HPHT wells?

2.2 Summary of wellbore sections

2.2.1 General
Offset wells are all HPHT wells, analogous in part to Culzean well to be drilled.

2.2.2 Well foundation

No major drilling problems noted or identified.

2.2.3 Top hole wellbore

2.2.4 Surface wellbore

2.2.5 Intermediate wellbore

All casing strings setting depths achieved required formation integrity. Weakest formations however are unlikely to be at the
casing shoe and must be accounted for in all pre-engineering and operational considerations.

2.2.6 Production casing

All casing strings setting depths achieved required formation integrity. Weakest formations however are unlikely to be at the
casing shoe and must be accounted for in all pre-engineering and operational considerations.

HPHT Exploration well’s, Offset Data Analysis

2.3 Offset data & well design attachments

2.3.1 Comparative Geological and geo-physical Plots
All offset wells compare well to the anticipated stratigraphy in the Culzean 22_25-H wells.

2.3.2 Pressure plots

Pressure plots have been constructed based on all regional pressure (RFT), leak off and evaluated data determined.

2.3.3 Temperature plots

Temperature plot has been based on regional data sets available.
Well cat analysis has also been determined for each wellbore section.

2.3.4 Formation tops and casing depths

Stick diagrams have been constructed of formation tops and casing setting depths as drilled by the offset wells.

2.3.5 Pressure, fracture and mid weight gradients

Pore pressure and a wellbore stability study was conducted for the Culzean wells. Based on the results analysis, data was reviewed to
assure pressure, fracture and mud weight gradients have been ensured

2.3.6 Other well design, operational aspects.
