COMPUTERS SKILLS AS A BASIC TOOL FOR PRODUCTVITY

Nowadays, the use of computer is common in many workplaces since almost


offices uses computer for the purpose of emailing and document creation. Computer skills
becomes a basic requirement for most jobs as most offices requires every job applicant
to at least possess computer skills as well basic understanding on how to use and operate
a computer including word processors and computer programs.

Last February 27, 2018 the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB)
Regional Branch V (RBV) spearheaded a training titled Computer Hardware and Software
Fundamentals. The training was attended by the employees of the said office. The
primary objective of the training was to familiarize the employees of the various parts of
the computer and to test their knowledge about it.

A professor from AMA Computer College, Engr. Rey Kelly Larce conducted a four
(4) hours lecture on topics about computer parts and functions. He also discussed about
basic hardware and software troubleshooting of computers wherein the employees were
asked to perform some practical exercises to work out certain commands in the computer
and to determine whether they were able capture the content of training. As Engr. Larce
said “being a computer literate will increase productivity and also break out problems that
can cost time and amount of money.” As a result, computers have become an important
tool on how workers perform their job tasks.

This basic computer training provides a foundation on which employees can build
new skills on their work. Learning how to operate software and hardware can be much
easier if one has already an unyielding foundation of computer programs. The employees
who participated in the training realized that indeed computers can increase the speed
and accuracy of many work processes. That documents can be inputted or edited faster
with the help of this computer programs. It can also produce reports with great speed.

At the end of the presentation, Director Reynaldo S. Foncardas of the NCMB RBV
posed a question to the lecturer on how to maintain a long life computers. Engr. Larce
shared two tips about good maintenance of computers: First, to maintain cleanliness.
