Honoring 'black
Panther' Director:
C ouncil Member Jumaane D. Williams recently pre-
sented Ryan Coogler, the writer and director of
Black Panther and Creed, among other films, with an
NYC Council Proclamation, recognizing the contribu-
tions that the young artist has made to cinema, and in
particular, the way in which his films have celebrated
Black culture.
‘'Black Panther' has already shattered several box
office records, earning $242 million dollars in its open-
ing weekend and taking the nation, and the world by
storm. But last week, at a preview screening, Council
Member Williams recognized its creator for the other
ways that the film, and its writer/director, have made
history.
"It is of vital importance to celebrate heroes of
color, to create role models in the super hero universe
and to unabashedly celebrate Black culture in a block-
buster motion picture. Children, and people of all ages,
all over the world, are looking to Black Panther as an
icon, and in bringing this story to life on such a grand
stage, Ryan Coogler has inspired millions. Amid com-
mercial success, he continues to uphold his artistic vi-
sion and his passion for storytelling."
As a former film student and actor, Council Mem-
ber Williams deeply appreciates the work of Coogler
and other artists like him, redefining the cinema land-
scape for actors of more color, and eagerly looks for-
ward to Coogler's future work.

Safaree Breaks Internet Record

Rapper Safaree is clearly having
his own #metooman moment after a

Go for all-day eyes. When you’re em-

Using a waterproof formula can give
you the confidence that your lashes are in

the day may bring. If you have a favorite

Make it matte. For lip color that lasts
from sunrise to moonlight, matte lipstick is
the real deal. In addition to being long-last-

Dear Anonymous:
His mother should be ashamed of herself.
According to Judge Judith Champagne of
the California Superior Court, the name for
what you have described is "immigration
fraud, and it is a felony that could, indeed,
bring jail time."
Please warn him that the feds are onto these
kinds of shenanigans. "Couples who pre-
tend to be married are called in for an inter-
view and questioned separately about
minute details that cannot be faked. Being
convicted of a felony could ruin this young
man's future, so I strongly advise against
taking such a foolish risk."
Insecure people are usually the most
judgmental. Some are not secure with them-
selves or think they are above others due to
their position. They usually frown down
upon other who are either different or don’t
follow in their footsteps. The following ar-
ticle is about couple dealing the judgmental
attitude of their brother-in-law and his wife.

3 Ways to Win the Heart

of a Strong Black Woman
By Heath Wiggins
1. Have Your Stuff Together
You’ve got to have your stuff together or at
least be close to getting it together. What I
mean is, the bare minimums must be in place:
job, residence and vehicle. You also must
have some long-term goals and some valid
short-term plans to reach them. Your faith
must exist, and you must be pursuing it fur-
ther.

2. Listen More Than You Talk

When a man is intimidated by a woman, he
will likely try to go on an all-out, self-promo-
tion campaign. He may think by constantly
talking about himself and all the qualities she
should love in him, he will validate himself
in her eyes. But this strategy often backfires,
making him look weak, egotistical, competi-
tive or shallow.

3. Add Value to Her Life

From the information you gather listening,
now you can add value to her life by helping,
supporting and encouraging her in the areas
of her interest. And you can use that same in-
formation in motivating, challenging and
holding her accountable in the areas in which
she struggles. Listen intently in order to iden-
tify where your life experiences and skillsets
can add the most value.
