Holy Names Academy (HNA) is a Catholic school that serves young women in grades
9-12. HNA is the longest continually operating school in the State of Washington,
established in 1880, and moved to its current location in 1908.
HNA has 698 students, 81 full-time faculty and staff, and 40 part-time adjunct faculty
and coaches.
Students, faculty, and staff commute from 86 different zip codes throughout the Puget
Sound area.
HNA’s mission is to serve “young women of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious
backgrounds.”
32.4% of students receive financial aid. $1.43 million in need-based aid was awarded in
2017-18.
35.7% of students and 26% of faculty/staff are persons of color.
Core to HNA’s mission is educating students to give back to the community. In 2016-
17, HNA students provided 31,000 hours of community service in the community,
including the Capitol Hill neighborhood—or an average of 44 hours per student.
The current HNA school population of 779 full-time faculty, staff, and students park
approximately 245 cars per day (as single drivers or drivers of carpools). This amounts
to 31% of our population. The remaining 69% of our population commute as passengers
in carpools, take public transportation, walk or bike. In addition, approximately 40 part-
time faculty, coaches, volunteers, and visitors also park at HNA or in the neighborhood.
HNA currently has two small, on-campus parking lots, which accommodate 28 cars, 10
mini buses and school vehicles, and 2 disabled parking spaces.
Parking demand for special events can range from 25 to 350 spaces.
