Race Overview
Jarun Recreation and Sporting Centre is located in west part of Zagreb along the Sava river. Race
start and finish are located in street Hrvatskog Sokola. From the start, the route leads through the
roads of the main center of Zagreb and its County, unravelling the beauty of Croatia's capital and its
surroundings.
Taking place at the beginning of the 2018. cycling season, this race can serve as a test to prepare for
the upcoming season or to introduce corrections in the existing training processes in order to reach
your peak in races that will follow in the coming months.
The route is characterized by the ascent early from start and flat terrain after. GRANFONDO
ZAGREB offers a little something for everyone. The race is 114 kilometres GRANFONDO course or
87 kilometres MEDIOFONDO course and offers a unique experience for each competitor. After the
start at Jarun, the signposts will direct you towards the Centre of Zagreb. Upon passing through the
city centre, you will be faced with the most challenging and the most difficult part of the race – the
ascent to Medvednica (Sljeme). Having overcome this challenge, upon arriving to the top (Sljeme),
the signposts will direct you to a long descent towards the Zagorje side of Medvednica. After you
rest and recover your strength, you will reach a village Igrisce at 60 km marker. From here every
cyclist can choose to ride GRANFONDO or MEDIOFONDO. The courses once more merge into one
race at Donja Bistra (92km GF vs 65km MF) and move onto the last third of the race, passing
through the village Jablanovec back towards the Jarun Recreation and Sporting Centre, where the
finish line of this year’s race is located.
Coverage of the cyclists during the race will be in real-time via unique system on LCD's at the finish
line. At around 03:00pm award ceremony will take place and everyone can relax / enjoy in craft beer,
great music by Josip Paljug ("All Stars" band) and sponsors showrooms.

recommend taking enough time to arrive due to possible traffic jams and difficulties in finding a parking space.

MAP & ROUTE INFO

Start:
The location is street of Hrvatskog Sokola in front of the ramp for entry into the Jarun Recreation
and Sporting Centre. The race starts in a group ride - closed through the city centre. Upon arrival
in the vicinity of the climb race will open.
Ascent:
Climbing to Sljeme – a demanding ascent which should be carefully paced because of its length
and average slope of 5.5%. It is category 2 climb. First to climb on Sljeme wins a polka dot
jersey! Fastest in 2017. event holds a record of 23:03 minutes (Janko Benger) so HOLDFAST!!!
Descent:
The descent is much longer than the ascent and requires caution and concentration. It is
technically very demanding, but it will give you a chance to relax your tired legs after the climb.
At the end of the descent, take into account that the slope is greater than at the beginning and that
it is followed by flat terrain.
Route splits in two:
Halfway through the race at 59.7 km marker the courses separate into GRANFODNO and
MEDIOFONDO. Cyclist can choose between them simply by taking a turn. This gives every
participant flexibility in order to maximize experience and satisfaction with GF Zagreb race!
All together again:
Just before reaching Jablanovec, the routes turn into one single course for the final push towards
Zagreb and the finish line at the Jarun Recreation and Sporting Centre

REGISTRATION AND FEE
First 100 registrations from no. 1 to no. 100 is HRK 100.00 per competitor, and for teams from no. 1 to no. 10
(one team includes a minimum of 3 members and maximum of 5 members) the entry fee is HRK 375.00 fixed
(HRK 75.00 per competitor)!
Second 100 registrations from no. 101 to no. 200 is HRK 150.00 per competitor, and for teams from no. 11 to
no. 20 (one team includes a minimum of 3 members and maximum of 5 members) the entry fee is HRK 625.00
fixed (HRK 125.00 per competitor)!
Last 100 registrations from no. 201 to no. 300 is HRK 200.00 per competitor, and for teams from no. 21 to no.
30 (one team includes a minimum of 3 members and maximum of 5 members) the entry fee is HRK 875.00
fixed (HRK 175.00 per competitor)!
Final call registrations from no. 301 onwards is HRK 250.00 per competitor, and for teams from no. 31
onwards (one team includes a minimum of 3 members and maximum of 5 members) the entry fee is HRK
1,125.00 fixed (HRK 225.00 per competitor)!
Confirmation and payment: after the successful registration you will receive an email as confirmation and
attached payment order for the entry fee. The payment order is for domestic use only! International payment
details can be found in PROPOSITIONS. All payments from abroad, due to transaction cost, must be
increased by EUR 7.00!!!

DISTRIBUTION OF NUMBERS:
▪ Sunday, at the start line - Ulica Hrvatskog Sokola from 07:30am till 10:00am.
▪ Cycling equipment and helmet are mandatory. Safety is a priority!
▪ Be aver of the weather conditions on the race day.

DO I NEED A CYCLING LICENSE?
No, a cycling license is not required. But if you do have one please show it to our staff member
durring a pick up of a starting number. The UCI license has incorporated insurance policy so get
informed at your national cycling organisation is it valid for GranFondo Zagreb.

WHAT IF I DROP OUT OR GET LOST?
All competitors who will not be able to finish the race or who fall behind must abide by and
respect the traffic rules and take the safest possible route back to the Jarun Sports and Recreation
Centre. Also, the race is covered by live GPS tracking system that you are obligated to use.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE RESULTS?
The results of the race will be announced on our website. After a race go to our section
REGISTRATION & RACES where you should find the results.
