Tactics of the roman empire

The romans were very good at winning wars. That can be explained
by the people how were very well trained, but it’s meanly because
the tactics they used. Like to scare the enemy with their big weapons
or that they had a good armour. Each roman legion carries 60 of the
weapons on this cardboard. And all those things let the romans
survive for almost 500 years. That is almost even as long the
Netherlands exist.

SPEAR
The spears are very special because the top of the spear is very strong
and the part below the top is weak. Because it’s weak it can break or
bent over very fast. In that way the enemy cannot use the spears
anymore and can’t throw it back to the Romans.

SCORPION
The scorpion is a weapon that shoots iron tips bolts and looks like a
giant crossbow. The scorpion is used by the first stages of attack
because it can kill the enemy instantly from a big distance. It can
shoot from 1200 feet with an extremely high speed. Because of the
high speed it can break easily skulls or bones.

BALLISTA

The ballista works almost the same as the scorpion, but the ballista
throws stones and not bolts. Also, is the ballista much bigger and
more powerful than the scorpion. The ballista can fire stones of 60
pounds. When the stones go in the air they go with a speed of 150
miles per hour. The distance the stone can go is 1500 feet. The ballista
is used to take down the walls or buildings of the enemy.

ONAGER
The onager is like a big catapult. It throws stones of 50 pounds from
1000 feet. They painted the stones they used black, so the enemy
didn’t see them coming in the night. This also has a psychological
effect, because it’s very scary for the enemy.

The armour
The armour of the romans was in the beginning made of chain. It was
very heavy (around 33 pounds), and the blots easily can go through
the armour. So, they had the idea to make iron plats that overlap
each other. It was handy because it was also very light, so you can
move easier and fight better.

players. They have protection around the shoulders a chest. This way
it allows them to move well and it spreads the impact of a heavy blow
around the body.

The testudo is a tactic where they use the shields that forms a big
shield over a group of soldiers that are bunched together. The big
shields are large and curved, so the soldiers can look through the
shields. It’s like the house of a turtle. The testudo is effective in
defence or attack.
