There was a kingdom name Kembajat which was attacked by a Garuda.

Everything was ravaged, food was scarce. The king and queen of the land was
forced to travel to leave their child in the woods to spare their dear child from the
suffering caused by Garuda. The baby was placed in a boat left to drift along the
river which was later found by a merchant. The merchant took the child and the
fish beside the baby and took them home. The merchant discovered that the soul
of the baby was attached to the fish so they tried to keep the fish from harm
giving it its own place in the merchant’s garden.

The child was loved by the merchant, all of the wives of the merchant also
loved the child and they named her Bidasari. They give Bidasari’s everything that
she desires. As time passed by, she grew up to be a beautiful lady. Her beauty
has no peer.

The merchant lives in the kingdom of Indapura wherein a king who name
was Mengindra was married to a princess named Lila Sari. The queen loves the
king so much that she didn’t want him to marry another woman. The queen being
curious asked the king if he will marry another woman aside from her. The king
said that he will not marry another woman not unless he finds another fairer than
she is. The queen succumbed by jealousy was enraged and sent out her
servants to search the kingdom for a lady with a face fairer than hers. And soon
they found Bidasari.

Bidasari was asked to come to the palace by the queen to become a

princess as the king and queen had no child. But the queen instead tortured her
and made her a slave. Bidasari despite of all the suffering she had in the hands
of the queen didn’t die but when Bidasari finally wanted to end all her suffering
told the queen how to kill her. She tricked the queen that in order to kill her the
queen must take the gold fish out of the water in the morning and bring it back to
the water when night falls. The queen then followed Bidasari’s instructions and
took the place and used it as a necklace.

Bidasari’s body was sent home and at night she was revived. She told her
father everything that has happened and they decided to take Bidasari away from
the kingdom in a far place. She refused to be left but finally agreed for her own
safety. He was visited by his father everyday and provides her with food and
clothing.

One day the king discovered the place during one of his hunting trips and
discovered Bidasari. The king fell in love with her beauty and decided to marry
hear. Bidasari feared that the queen might see her so she refused, the king was
curious of what she feared and Bidasari finally confessed the cruelties she
suffered from the queen.

The king was angered but was and wanted to take revenge to the queen
but he was persuaded by Bidasari not to take revenge. The king asked for her
father to come see him to ask for their Bidasari’s hand. The merchant refused at
first but then agreed as the king promised protection from the queen.

The king then asked his men to make a castle in Bidasari’s place and that
is where they will live. After a while Bidasari finally married the king. After a while
the queen Lila Sari was left alone in the castle of Indapura so Bidasari asked the
king to go visit her as she may be feeling lonely already. Though the king was
hesitant at first he finally agreed with Bidasari’s persuasion.

The king visited Lila Sari but the queen is mad to the king about marrying
Bidasari. The king left and returned to Bidasari and told everything had
happened. Bidasari told the king to visit her once again when she has calmed
and her anger has setteled he should try to embrace her. The king was surprised
to Bidasari as she showed no hatred toward Lila Sari.

While Bidasari enjoys the company of the king back in the kingdom of
Kembajat, the brother of Bidasari prince Sinapati learned about the incident that
happened when his parents left her sister Bidasari in the woods. The enraged
prince demanded the reason for Bidasari being abandoned, the king and queen
of Kembajat explained the reason which calmed him down. The prince decided to
search for her long lost sister reassuring his father that he will take the throne
after his search for his sister.

The prince arrived at Indapura and learns about the queen the king
recently married. They resemble each other so well that he thinks Bidasari was
his sister. He set out to talk to the king and the king was shocked to see a prince
who shares a common beauty with his wife. The king then introduced Sinapati to
Bidasari. Sinapati then revealed to the king and Bidasari her roots and the
reason why she was abandoned. The king was overjoyed to learn that he
actually married a royal blooded princess.

Over time the kingdom of Indapura flourished and expaned. Queen Lila
Sari lived alone and isolated in order to repent for the sins she committed.
 Title:

The title of the Story is Bidasari. The story is fiction since there are
mythical creatures involved and magical phenomena occurs.

Setting:

The story took place in a kingdom near forest and river banks. There is
also a setting in the story where Bidasari was left in a dry warm place which is
probably near a dessert

Plot:

The plot in this story is circular. There is a flashback of what happened in

the kingdom of Kembajat right before the introduction of Bidasari’s brother.

Conflict:

The conflict is man vs. man. Mainly the conflict is about the Queen and
Bidasari. The queen’s hatred toward Bidasari.

Symbolism:

The character Lila Sari symbolizes how a wife of a muslim would feel
when they receive unequal treatment from their husband.

Point of View:

The point of view is third person. The story is being told in the eyes of the
author. The character’s personality and actions are being told based on what the
author has to say.

Theme:

Tradition. The story gives us a look at the Muslim tradition specifically their
marriage practices.
