Abstract: By means of the present work it is tried to analyze the characteristics of a PLC of security in front of a
PLC of general purpose. Nowadays, standard PLCs incorporate diagnostic functions, but much less than safety PLCs.
This is the essence that we will explain a little more. In addition, it meets the design standards of the so-called
"Instrumented Safety Systems" (abbreviation SIS) which includes the international standard IEC-61508, IEC-61511
(process industry), IEC-62061 (manufacturing industry) and others. In this sense, avoiding the possible unsafe
conditions in a process arises the Safety PLC.
Keywords: Diagnostic, safety.
