Within this article Professor Felicity Baker explains the effectiveness of music therapy,

and how it has been proven beneficial to many. For in therapeutic songwriting, a therapist

purposefully engages the songwriters in a creative process whereby they craft a song that

has personal meaning and simultaneously leads them through a journal of personal

discovery. Baker goes deep into what songwriting can do for a person psychologically,

and how it is a powerful method when used. This article is helpful research for my

Capstone because of how detailed Baker is in the power of what music therepy can do for

personal discovery.

books. As well as lectured at multiple UC colleges. Because will be writting songs this

website will help my Capstone in how to begin writing a song, and what it takes to make

In this article Dr. Cortney S. Warren , an Associate Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the

University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of

Psychiatry at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, because of her backround her

articale is a great tool in I will use for my Capstone. Dr. Warren explains that given the

emotionally charged nature of music, it can be an incredibly effective way to express

ourselves and cope with challenging life circumstances. Because sometimes life is really

hard. Whether it be conflict with family, ending a relationship, or experiencing trauma,

we all have moments in which we are brought to our knees with pain, sadness, and

confusion, and music is a great way to express and work through your thoughts, and

emotions. Then she continues to explain that music is a great gift that can connect to

humans on a personal level. And that is why it will benifit my Capstone. To help explain

how personal music is.

Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast have discovered that music therapy reduces

depression in children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional problems.

They found that children who received music therapy had significantly improved self-
esteem and significantly reduced depression compared with those who received treatment

without music therapy.

certain song can make us feel happy, sad, energetic, or relaxed. Because music can have

such an impact on a person’s mindset and well-being, even now music therapy has been

studied for use in managing numerous medical conditions.
