About Us
MySmallHelp (MSH) was set up in 2007 by a group of friends in the UK and Nepal who strongly
believe in upholding basic human rights for children. In March 2011, MySmallHelp Peru was
registered as a non-profit organization to pursue the mission of helping people with disabilities
or who live in poverty so they can have access to education, health care and skills training.
Since 2013, MySmallHelp Peru became MiPequeñaAyuda so that the locals would find it easier
to remember the name.
We believe in providing support for people while working with them to develop a long-term
sustainable plan, avoiding a culture of dependency. MSH Peru is now helping more 24
beneficiaries in the Cusco region to ensure an optimal environment for their development and
well-being.
Objectives
- Continue to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families,
and increase the number of beneficiaries.
- Raise funds and awareness by building strong partnerships, locally and internationally.
- Recruit long-term professional volunteers to develop more sustainable projects.
1. Integral Support Program: Developing individualized plans for each of our beneficiaries
in different fields (legal, healthcare, educational, social, etc.) as well as assist and
support each activity.
2. Community Development Projects: We deliver families and communities with
construction or educational projects to improve their quality of life.
3. Workshops at Schools: “The reading Corner” project, english workshops, assisting in
special needs schools, etc.
4. Health and aid campaigns
Activities
Provide direct care and support for children and adults who have needs related to
physical, social, emotional, and other special education needs.
Assist the beneficiaries in their home, school setting or at MSH House, with basic
therapy exercises, social skills, or general academic support. We provide a variety of
classes (basic communication exercises, art, homework & educational support, among
others).
Participate and provide assistance to children in educational projects in schools:
teaching children to read, english workshops, volunteering in special needs schools.
Participate in community development projects (e.g. construction projects) in the
communities nearby.
Create and develop educational tools and handouts. Provide basic training for other
volunteers, parents in specific fields according to the skills offered by each volunteer.
Participate in administrative tasks, which may include: organizing paperwork,
developing communication tools, or other tasks requested; and logistical tasks.
Volunteers are encouraged to use their various skills to propose further
development opportunities regarding the beneficiaries and local communities. For
example, if a volunteer has a background in education, psychology, art, sports, or
other professional skills, we may be able to incorporate those interests with the
volunteering tasks.
There might be events on some nights or weekends, depending on project’s needs.
MySmallHelp House is a cozy place with all the comforts of home & gorgeous views of the
mountains. The house has 2 shared rooms, 2 private rooms and 3 shared bathrooms with hot
water, a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living room and a beautiful garden. WIFI runs
throughout the house. Volunteers share responsibilies for maintaining their living
environment.
Located at the heart of Ollantaytambo, you will enjoy the view of the mountains and the
archeological site from your window. MySmallHelp House is 10 min. away (walking) from the
train station and close by to the fortress of Ollantaytambo. It is a quiet and calmed place
where our volunteers and staff can live, enjoying the Sacred Valley of the Incas and sharing
their experiences!
Travel Logistics
Ollantaytambo is located approximately 2 hours from the center of Cusco City. International
flights usually land in Lima and there are many daily connections to Cusco airport which is just
a short one hour flight away. If you are on a tight budget, you can also travel by bus from Lima
to Cusco (approximately 22 hours). On arrival in Cusco, we recommend our volunteers to head
to Calle Pavitos where they can get a shared transportation to Ollantaytambo and directions of
MSH House will be provided on arrival.
