What is the difference between Joking and
Bullying?
Joking

1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement or a prankish act


2. a matter that need not be taken very seriously; trifling matter

Bullying

1. an unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power


imbalance.
2. behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.
3. includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone
physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
3 Key Components of Bullying
1. Power imbalance

2. Repetitive actions

3. Intentional actions
 The main aspect of bullying is that it has a real emotional and
psychological impact. Depending on the situation, it may:
 Hurt
 Humiliate
 Expose
 Harass, or
 Otherwise harm
Types of Bullying
• Physical bullying

• Verbal bullying

• Relational aggression

• Cyberbullying
Where and When Does Bullying Occur?
• Bullying can occur ANYWHERE, but it generally occurs at or near schools in
places where adult supervision is limited or nonexistent. Examples include:
 Hallways
 Canteen/ School Food court
 Playgrounds
 School Bus/ Service
 Classrooms before lessons
Who is Harmed When Bullying Occurs?
In a word:

EVERYONE
Lasting Psychological Impact of Bullying
The Victim
 They have a tendency to become emotionally withdrawn
 They become quiet, shy, self-contained and have trouble interacting with
peers

 Filled with anxiety, sadness, depression and loneliness


 Increased risk of suicide

 Inability to trust himself or herself as a capable individual

 At risk of short-term and long-lasting emotional problems as the children they
victimize

 Bullies often have trouble relating to their peers

 They can be violent, manipulative, cruel, without empathy and generally


unpleasant

 Greater risk for alcohol and drug abuse

 Often gets into fights, vandalize and drop out of school

 Often grow up to be unhappy adults

 They may have difficulty holding down a job, retaining friendships and maintaining
romantic or even family relationships.

psychological effects that are more severe than that experienced by
either bullies or victims alone.
 Demonstrates many of the same behaviors

• The Observer Bullying?


 Use and abuse of alcohol and tobacco can wreak
and anxiety can cause long-lasting problems with
relationships, work and happiness.
 Skipping school or dropping out can also affect
success later life.

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF BULLYING


Bullying?
• Republic Act No. 10627 or Anti-bullying Act of 2013
LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF BULLYING
SEC. 4. Mechanisms to Address Bullying. – The school principal or any person
who holds a comparable role shall be responsible for the implementation and
oversight of policies intended to address bullying.
• Any member of the school administration, student, parent or volunteer shall
immediately report any instance of bullying or act of retaliation witnessed, or that
has come to one’s attention, to the school principal or school officer or person
so designated by the principal to handle such issues, or both. Upon receipt of
such a report, the school principal or the designated school officer or person
shall promptly investigate. If it is determined that bullying or retaliation has
occurred, the school principal or the designated school officer or person shall:
(a) Notify the law enforcement agency if the school principal or designee
believes that criminal charges under the Revised Penal Code may be pursued
against the perpetrator;

(b) Take appropriate disciplinary administrative action;
(c) Notify the parents or guardians of the perpetrator; and
(d) Notify the parents or guardians of the victim regarding the action
taken to prevent any further acts of bullying or retaliation.

• If an incident of bullying or retaliation involves students from more


than one school, the school first informed of the bullying or
retaliation shall promptly notify the appropriate administrator of
the other school so that both may take appropriate action.
