METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The researchers used the descriptive research to conduct this study entitled

“Engagement in Online Gaming: Its Relation to the Academic Performance of High

School students.”

Locale of the study

The study was conducted in Estefania Montemayor National High

School,Dumarao, Capiz.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of the studywere the students of Grade 8 and 9 of Estefania Montemayor

National High School,Dumarao, Capiz

Sample Size

Stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. Sample size was

determined using the formula used by Slovin.

Sampling Techniques

The researchers made use of the students in Grade 8 and 9 in Estefania

Montemayor National High School.

Both the students who play online games and who don’t had answered the test

questionnaire given by the researchers.

Research instrument

A standardized questionnaire was used as the main instrument of the study to

determine the level of engagement in online gaming and its relation towards the academic

performance of the respondents.

The questionnaire was prepared by the researchers themselves after doing a

research and intensive reading from the internet and asking opinions from their adviser

and online game players.

Data gathering procedure

The researcher then administered the questionnaire to the respondents, conduct

test and analyze the pertinent records to get the necessary data, retrieve the questionnaire

from the class, collate and classify the questionnaire to examine and compare carefully in

order to note points and verify the order, necessary for the completeness of the study.

Statistically analyze and interpret the data.

Data analysis procedure

The study utilized both descriptive and inferential statistics. Frequency counts,

percentage, mean and range were used in describing the data while chi-square test of

independence was utilized in determining if there is significant association between the

independent and dependent variables.
