i) To develop decoding skill to understand the language of map which will be

helpful in their day to day life.

 Interest factor:

i) Playing puzzle game and finding way out game.

 Teacher’s interaction:

i) How the requirement of map arise from locating of food and water. Use of
landmarks to locate place. Then teacher will ask student to write their address and
explain the same which include landmarks. Then teacher will display world map and
explain its features.

ii) After map why there is requirement of Globe and teacher will explain
features of Globe.

 Student’s interaction:

i) Compare and contrast of Globe and Map.

1

i) Teacher will speak / write features of map and globe and student will
categories in map / globe where it falls.

 Assignment:

i) State the features of Globe

ii) State the features of Map.

Session – 2

 Objective:

i) To make students aware with different components of map (i.e. Map tittle,
legend, scale, grid line, etc)

 Teacher’s aid:

i) World Map
ii) Worksheet of drawing with help of grid to explain concept of scale.
iii) Worksheet to explain grid (X – axis and Y – axis).
iv) Projector
 Need to know:

i) Students will be able to read different types of map (Political, Physical and
Thematic).

2
 Interest factor:

i) Drawing activity based on grid section.

 Teacher’s interaction:

i) Teacher will display world map and will explain different parts of Map such
as Map title, legend, etc and use of the same.

ii) To explain scale worksheet of drawing help of grid is to be done. Then

teacher will explain how on map / globe is miniature drawing / model of earth and
through that scale will be explained.

 Summary:

i) Video will be shown about explaining different components of map.

 Assessment:

i) Teacher will point out on world map different components of map and student
will name it.

 Assignment:

i) Teacher will give map with all the components in it and student have to label
the same.

3
Session – 3

 Objective:

i) To understand imaginary lines i.e. Latitude and Longitude, its requirement

and use.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) World Map
ii) Globe
iii) Grid line worksheet of finding/ labeling things co – ordinates.

 Need to know:

i) Student will understand why grid system is required as landmarks worked

locally to locate places. Even grid system is required to locate places in desert/ sea
/ ocean / forest where there are almost no address or landmarks to follow.

 Interest factor:

i) Game / worksheet of finding things and marking its X – axis and Y – axis.

 Teacher’s interaction:

i) After student solve worksheet teacher will explain how X – axis and Y – axis
helps to locate address / places exactly and same way on earth that grid is in form
of imaginary lines called Latitude and Longitudes.

ii) Teacher will display map / globe and will show that how with help of grid any
place can be located.

4
 Summary:

i) Teacher will show map and imaginary lines on the same and repeat the
concept orally and will show video for the same.

 Assessment:

i) Teacher, first in grid worksheet and then on world map will point at place and
student will tell its respective co – ordinates.

 Assignment:

i) Write down latitudes and longitudes of any 4 place of your choice.

Session – 4

 Objective:

i) Understand features of latitude and longitudes and difference between them.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Textbook (TREK – 5)
ii) World map

 Need to know:

i) How practically latitudes and longitudes can be used to locate place easily
which help them to understand relation of place and clothing, business, agriculture,
etc.

5
 Interest factor:

i) Activity of latitude and longitude and finding out latitude and longitude.

 Teacher’s interaction:

i) Teacher will display world map and through that teacher will display latitudes
and longitudes, equator and other important latitudes and longitudes.

 Student’s interaction:

i) Class will be divided into 2 groups, 1st. group will be telling features of
latitudes and other longitudes.

 Summary:

i) Teacher will repeat orally features of latitude and longitude

 Assessment:

i) Teacher will tell students to find / point out horizontal lines and parallel lines
in classroom and name it as latitudes and longitudes.

 Assignment:

i) Draw a labelled diagram from textbook and write down the features of
latitudes and longitudes in booklet.

6
Session – 5

 Objective:

i) Students will be able to find out time of different places of world with help of
grid system.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Textbook (TREK – 5)
ii) World map.

 Need to know:

i) Students will know how a world clock application or software calculates time
of different places of world.

 Interest factor:

i) Calculating time of different places of world.

 Teacher’s interaction:

i) Teacher will mathematically explain the calculation of time based on

longitudes that earth takes 4 minutes to rotate 1 degree and based on same
difference in degree can be used to determine time.

ii) Teacher will also explain to add or to subtract as we move in east or west
direction for calculation.

 Summary:

i) Teacher will again calculate and explain time calculation by taking some
other place (Not the same as taken before)
7
 Assessment:

i) Teacher will tell current time of India and students will calculate time of other
place / country of their own choice such as America / Canada / Australia, etc.

 Assignment:

i) What is meant by Grid system?

ii) Calculate time of 2 different places for e.g.: Japan / America compare to
India at any point of time. ( IST can be given by teachers also).

Session – 6

 Objective:

i) To equip students with 21st. century skill of navigation and world clock.
 Teacher’s aid:

i) Laptop / Mobile
ii) Projector

 Need to know:

i) Usage of google map and navigation to get best out of it.

 Interest factor:

i) Activity of student finding ways or direction of different places.

ii) Finding time from world clock / google of different country / place of their
choice.

8
 Teacher’s interaction:

i) Teacher on projector will display google map and will explain how usage of
map have changed with integration of technology.

ii) Teacher on projector will display and equip students to get information such
as road, traffic, etc of any place using google map.

iii) Teacher, with help of google will also display world clock and then will relate
calculation based on grid system.

 Summary:
