Abstract
In this proposal, my aim is to monitor for gsm based fuel and passenger management system.
In today’s world, actual record of fuel filled and fuel consumption in vehicles is not maintained. It
results in a financial loss. To avoid this I am going implementing a microcontroller based fuel
monitoring and vehicle tracking system. I will use the reed switch which works according to the
principle of Hall Effect for sensing the amount of fuel filled in the vehicle and amount of fuel
consumed.

1 Chapter I : Introduction
1.1 Background

1.1.1 Problem Statement

Add a list of the problems identified
Gsm based fuel and passenger management system nowadays in vehicle is very important mode of
transport for the people to move from one place to other place. During the time of
Travel passengers face many problems such as arriving time of vehicle and travelling time. The
important things satisfied by the project are:
- To send information about the location of vehicle to the to the owner via SMS.
-To create a user friendly transportation system using Gsm

1.1.2 Objectives
Add a list of the objectives of your system
The aim of this system is to monitor, detect gsm based fuel and passenger management system and
to prevent fuel theft goes on and illegal passenger.
I am going to propose this project and I know it will help the various industries or company which
have truck or any kind of vehicle and will also reduce the fuel theft and illegal passenger from going
on.

1.2 Scope

1.2.1 Technical
Describe what you will do and what you will not do
The technical limitations that I am going to face during this project are: building of hardware and
programming. Building of hardware: the equipment and components that I need in order to build
hardware are expensive and due to this I won’t be able to build hardware. Due to Lack of sufficient
programming skill, resources and usage of different programming languages, during the modelling
of my project simulation, there will be problems that won’t be able to handle and solve.

1.2.2 Project timeline

Add the timetable you will follow here

From 1 to 25 April: I will study how a microcontroller working and how to program microcontroller.
From 25 to 30 April: I will study a buzzer and it is working. From 1 to 20 May: I will study a liquid
1
lever sensor and analog to digital converter and how they are working. From 20 to 31 May: I will
study a gsm and how they are working. From 1 to 10 June: I will study LCD screen and how they
are working. From 10 June to 31 October: start with documentation and model of project simulation.

2 Chapter II : Literature Review
2.1 Technology used
Add a description of all the technologies you will use in your design
GSM
In GSM module there is a slot for GSM SIM card where card is used to be placed and in a GSM
SIM card is where there are numbers or subscriber number. When the level sensor is detect a fuel or
illegal passenger, it send signal to a microcontroller and then a microcontroller send signal to a GSM
module. The GSM module will send a message to all numbers we find in a GSM SIM card that there
is fuel theft or illegal passenger detected there. The owner need to go see and solve that problem
immediately.

BUZZER
A buzzer is act as alarm. When a microcontroller receive a signal from the level detect sensor that
there is fuel theft or illegal passenger detected. A microcontroller will send a signal to the buzzer and
buzzer will ring to alert the owner.

LEVEL SENSOR
It act as hydrostatic and optical liquid level control whether you opt for classic submersible sensor or
transmitter with a hydrostatic pressure measurement cell the measurements are output in a form you
can put to good use as current or voltage signals for pressure.
ADC
The analog-to-digital converter is only capable of performing an accurate
Conversion if the analog input voltage is within the valid input range of the
Converter. If the input voltage falls outside this range, the conversion value will be
Inaccurate. The input range is set by high and low voltage references. These define
the upper and lower limits of the valid input range. In many cases, the high and low
Voltage references are selected as the microcontroller supply voltage and ground, at
Other times an external reference or references are used.
In addition, some devices have internal voltage references that can be used. The
Source or sources for these voltage references are a configuration option when
Setting up the analog-to-digital converter in the PIC microcontroller (MCU).
Note that there are restrictions on the voltage reference levels, for example: the
Reference voltages generally shouldn’t be less than Vss or greater than VDD. There

3
Is also a minimum difference that is required between the high and low reference
Voltages. Please consult your data sheet for the voltage reference requirements

LCD
It is necessary requirement to put a display about system monitoring and controlling performance,
which displays the various messages such as fuel theft and illegal detection. Additionally the system
also displays the actions carried out in the microcontroller. For
Work of displaying the- alert messages on Liquid crystal display (LCD) of 16*2 characters operating
on +5 volt supply and operated 4-bit mode is implemented

MICROCONTROLLER
Microcontroller is working us a brain for the whole system. It control all the devices that made up
the system. An efficient and smooth working controller is needed to continuously sense fuel theft
and illegal passenger. And also fast response is require when fuel theft or illegal passenger detected
.Along with this the monitoring system must provide additional fuel and passenger information
which can be used in further processing. The detection system with microcontroller chip 8051.

2.2 Similar work

Add three (3) examples of work similar to your design
-According to the system that design and implemented by Kunal Maurya, Mandip Singh and Neelu
Jain proposed an anti-theft tracking system. Vehicle tracking system is real time system which is
working on the GPS and GSM technology which provide the location of vehicle to the vehicle
owner in the case of vehicle is stolen. It can also be used in wildlife tracking, asset tracking and in
stolen vehicle recovery

-According to the system that design and implemented by Prafull Patinge and N.R. Kolhare
proposed smart on board public information system, having fix GPS, GSM/GPRS and
microcontroller module on bus. This system alert passenger about the present and next station on
comparison with GPS coordinates and already stored GPS coordinates of respective location on
LCD display in bus and also announcement using speaker

4
- According to the system that design and implemented by G. Raja, G. V. Karthik, et al. proposed
bus position monitoring system to facilitate the passenger. The wireless communication technologies
like GSM & GPS are used to send the information about number of seats available in the bus to bus
station and current location of bus on the route respectively. Real time passenger information system
uses variety of technologies to track the location of bus in real time and generate the prediction of
bus arrival at stops along the routes

3 Chapter III : Methodology
3.1 Concept
Describe the design you will employ to solve the problems identified
I will propose a system that will detect the gsm based fuel and passenger management system with
SMS indication has application in Cars and all other vehicles. This project has a GSM modem which
send sms to the owner of vehicle when there is fuel theft or illegal passenger going on. Vehicle
Petrol theft is one of the main concerns of many car owners. Many people had been faced that the
petrol from their cars has been stolen. My main intention of this project is to prevent such situation.
In SMS based petrol theft detection system, I am going to use Level sensor to detect the petrol level
in petrol tank. If the level goes below certain threshold level then this sensor gives a particular signal
to the microcontroller. Then microcontroller turns on the buzzer and sends SMS to the car owner.
Microcontroller is a main heart or Central Processing Unit of the system

3.3 Operation
Describe the operation of your system/components on your system

1. Liquid level sensor: This is an important block at the input side of microcontroller. The function
of liquid level is to detect the variation in fuel level and it gives variable output voltage as per the
variations in level. This liquid level sensor can be used for any type of liquid. So it can be used for
petrol as well as diesel or in some cases it can be used for water level detection as well.

2. ADC: ADC is analog to digital converter. Output of level sensor is in analog form and the 8051
microcontroller is not able to read the analog voltage signal, so we have used analog to digital
converter. ADC reads the analog input voltage and gives digital output data which is corresponding
to the analog data received. The output of ADC is 8bit format which is compatible to the
microcontroller.

3. Microcontroller: We have used 89s51 microcontroller which is a 8051 series microcontroller.

Various functions of microcontroller are:
(i) To read the data from ADC which is the data received from level sensor.
(ii) To read the signal from the ignition key.
(iii) To calculate the variation in liquid level.
(iv) To display various information in LCD display.
(v) To turn on buzzer if the liquid level crosses threshold value.
(vi) To send SMS when there is change in liquid level.

4. LCD display: It is known as Liquid Crystal Display. It displays various messages like “Ignition
key inserted”, “Ignition key removed”, “Petrol theft is in progress”, “Sending SMS”, “SMS send
successfully”. It also displays variation in petrol level. We have used 16 by 2 alphanumeric display.
LCD is mainly important for testing the project, however in actual use LCD is optional.

5. Buzzer or siren: Buzzer plays very important role in my project. A buzzer is turned on whenever
petrol theft is going on or petrol is stolen. Buzzer will be turned on as soon as there is decrease in
petrol level without ignition key. Loud noise of buzzer will draw attention of persons in the
7
surrounding so they can come to know that something wrong is happening with the car. This can
save further fuel theft. We have used 12 volt buzzer for demonstration purpose.

6. GSM modem: GSM modem is used to send messages to the owner of the car. We have to insert a
GSM sim card into this GSM modem. Microcontroller sends the commands for sending SMS to the
GSM modem. These commands are sent through serial communication port. This technology is used
because many times we go to the multiplex or theater or shopping mall and we park car on other
road or in the parking area so we are not near the car .Whenever petrol theft is going on user will get
SMS and user can rush to the car to check the safety of car

Conclusion
Vehicle tracking system is very useful and important mainly in cities and it is much secured than
other systems. This system has many advantage like wide area range, easy to implement in
vehicles, more effective, huge capability etc. This system was made up of a tracking module
containing GPS- GSM model to excess dynamic vehicle location and send it to the owner. The
control unit. Owner receives the information, processes it and displays vehicle location on android
application. This project grants us to get furnished with work custom, person and ecosystem. This
project serves the need of user as well as administration of transport system.
